Join Downer and play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure across our Whanganui network.

We’re looking for a motivated and skilled Driver/Operator to join our team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be responsible for operating and maintaining plant and equipment safely and efficiently, while contributing to high-quality outcomes across our works programme.

No two days are the same - you’ll be working as part of a close-knit crew, supporting a range of civil construction and maintenance activities while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are met.

 

Your Day to Day will include:

• Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently in line with company standards
• Carry out pre-start checks and identify/report hazards to maintain a safe work environment
• Work as part of a crew to deliver civil construction and maintenance activities
• Ensure plant is operated with care for the environment, minimising emissions and waste
• Maintain equipment and report faults to support reliable performance
• Assist with routine servicing and general upkeep of plant and equipment
• Complete timesheets, logbooks, and other required documentation accurately and on time
• Keep work areas, plant, and equipment clean, safe, and secure at all times
• Support team members and contribute to a positive, productive crew culture
• Follow all Zero Harm, environmental, and quality procedures

You’re a reliable team player who takes pride in your work and has a strong focus on safety and quality.

• Proven experience operating civil construction plant and equipment
• Strong understanding of safe operating practices and site hazards
• Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to shared goals
• Good attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
• Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
• Reliable, flexible, and willing to get stuck in with hands-on work
• Basic numerical skills and ability to complete paperwork accurately
• Class 4 / 5 Full NZ Drivers License ( WTR endorsements advantageous)
