About the Role
The Operational Risk Team is part of the 2nd line of Defense and is responsible for managing and overseeing the operational risk function of our organization by providing independent oversight and challenge to the first line of defense. As a second line of defense, the Operational Risk team helps the business identify threats and operational risks to mitigate potential losses and customer dissatisfaction, ensuring a robust and resilient operating environment. Our proactive approach ensures efficient operations, and regulatory compliance, and enhances customer trust, maintaining our competitive edge and long-term success.
Responsibilities
Risk and Control Self-Assessment: Collaborate closely with various business units and Business Control Officers to identify, evaluate, and document operational risks and controls, based on the Nubank’s Methodology.
Evaluation of New Products and Features: Assess potential operational risks associated with the launch of new products, services, or features. Collaborate with product development teams to ensure that risk mitigation strategies are integrated into the design and implementation phases.
Incident Oversight: Conduct thorough reviews of operational incidents to identify and raise operational issues, map associated risks and controls, and accurately identify BDRO losses. Lead investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Root Cause Analyses: Lead root cause analysis of operational risk incidents, identifying issues and helping the 1LoD [First Line of Defense] to define corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Third-Party Assessment: Assess suppliers in terms of Business Continuity Management governance.
Business Continuity Management (BCM): Support the First Line of Defense (1LoD) with the review and challenge of Business Continuity Management processes.
Issues Management: Identify, document, and track operational risk issues. Ensure timely resolution and implementation of corrective actions, while keeping stakeholders informed of progress and outcomes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Accounting, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
Relevant experience in Operational Risk Management, Internal/ External Audit, or similar areas
Strong knowledge and experience in the financial services or banking industry.
Experience in risk reporting and communication, including presenting findings and recommendations to executive leadership and relevant stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the risk landscape.
In-depth understanding of operational risk frameworks (e.g., COSO).
Knowledge of requirements of Brazilian regulations applied to financial and payments institutions (BACEN).
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear business insights.
Clear, concise, and objective communication skills / Adaptability to a dynamic way of working and short-term deliverables.
Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proven skills in stakeholder management and influencing skills / Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate a sense of prioritization
Artificial Intelligence enthusiasm and coding skills (SQL, Python, Scala, or other similar programming languages) are a plus.
Location & Work Model
Hybrid 2-3 times/week: Our hybrid work model brings us to the office at least twice a week, on strategic days designed to maximize team connection and collaboration.
