Accountabilities:

    • Lead complex internal investigations involving regulatory matters, supervisory reviews, fraud concerns, whistleblower reports, sales practices, and customer impact issues from strategy development through resolution.
    • Support legal responses to operational and compliance incidents, including cybersecurity events, market conduct matters, consumer protection issues, and fraud-related situations.
    • Help develop and strengthen enterprise crisis management, incident response, escalation, and investigation frameworks.
    • Partner with Compliance, Risk, Privacy, Finance, and Information Security teams to identify legal risks and recommend improvements to policies and processes.
    • Manage litigation proceedings, pre-litigation disputes, and complaints, including coordination with external legal counsel.
    • Provide practical legal advice on strategic business matters and develop tailored solutions to complex legal and operational challenges.
    • Advise senior leaders and internal stakeholders with clarity, discretion, and strong business judgment during high-pressure situations.
    • Requirements:

      • Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership with a Canadian provincial bar association.
      • 5–7 years of litigation experience, ideally combining private practice and in-house legal experience.
      • Demonstrated expertise in litigation, internal investigations, crisis response, and legal risk management within a regulated industry.
      • Experience advising financial institutions, technology companies, or fintech organizations is strongly preferred.
      • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex situations, identify risks, and provide actionable recommendations.
      • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to business leaders.
      • Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
      • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive projects from strategy through execution.
      • Ability to build trusted relationships with internal teams, regulators, and external legal partners.
      • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
      • Admission to the New York bar is considered an asset.
