The requirement is for a Senior Manager – Intelligent Automation with 7+ years of experience who not only owns the complete development lifecycle of attended business process automations end-to-end, but also drives technical direction, standards, and delivery quality for the wider team.
This Python-first specialist combines architect-level Selenium and web automation expertise with strong VBA/Excel competencies, advanced data processing capabilities (Excel, PDF, OCR), and expert-level prompt engineering skills that turn AI into a dependable, production-grade automation component.
Beyond individual delivery, this is a person who takes initiative and leads - proactively identifying opportunities for improvement across the portfolio (not just their own assignments), designing reusable frameworks that raise the whole team's velocity, and stepping in to unblock, coach, and uplift co-developers. They are the person who brings solutions rather than problems: when challenges surface, they arrive with options and a recommendation, not just an escalation. This is a senior technical leader who pairs hands-on engineering excellence with the judgment, communication, and mentorship needed to run point on complex initiatives with full autonomy.
Core Technical Requirements
Python Development (Expert / Must-Have)
- Expert-level proficiency in Python 3.x with 7+ years hands-on experience, including experience reviewing and elevating the code of others
- Deep, applied mastery of OOP principles, design patterns, error handling, and modular architecture — able to architect frameworks and libraries that get reused across the team
- Proven experience packaging Python applications into executables (PyInstaller, cx_Freeze, auto-py-to-exe), and defining packaging/release standards for others to follow
- Strong command of virtual environments and dependency management (pip, requirements.txt, poetry) — sets and enforces environment standards across projects
Selenium & Web Automation (Critical)
- Expert-level Selenium WebDriver experience, including designing reusable automation frameworks (e.g. Page Object Model) for team-wide adoption
- Deep experience handling dynamic content, iframes, pop-ups, alerts, and AJAX calls — including the edge cases that get escalated by others
- Advanced use of explicit/implicit waits and robust locator strategies (XPath, CSS selectors); sets best-practice standards and reviews others' scripts for reliability
- Strong grasp of headless browser operations, including evaluating and piloting new tools and techniques
- Broad familiarity with Beautiful Soup, Scrapy, and Requests, with the judgment to recommend the right tool for a given use case and guide others' choices
Data Processing & File Handling
- Advanced Excel manipulation (openpyxl, pandas, xlwings, xlrd/xlsxwriter) — designs reusable utilities and templates for team-wide use
- Advanced PDF processing (PyPDF2, pdfplumber, tabula-py, camelot), including solving edge cases that block other developers
- OCR implementation and optimization (Tesseract, pytesseract, EasyOCR, cloud OCR APIs), with a track record of improving accuracy/performance across the wider portfolio
- Expert data transformation and cleansing with pandas and numpy, and mentors others on efficient, scalable patterns
VBA & Excel Macros (Important)
- Strong working knowledge of VBA for Excel automation, able to guide others through complex or legacy macro migrations
- Ability to read, refactor, and maintain existing VBA macros, with the judgment to decide when to retire or replace them with Python
- Deep familiarity with the Excel object model: Workbooks, Worksheets, Ranges, PivotTables
- Experience integrating Python and VBA via xlwings or win32com (pywin32), and setting integration standards for the team
- Sound judgment on VBA-vs-Python trade-offs, shared proactively as guidance for junior developers
- Understanding of macro security, digital signatures, and programmatic macro enablement
- Experience with Excel events, user forms, and custom functions (UDFs)
Microsoft Power Platform (Important)
- Working knowledge of Power Automate (cloud flows and desktop flows) for building and orchestrating automations, with sound judgment on when Power Automate is the better fit versus Python/Selenium
- Experience building Power Apps (canvas and/or model-driven) to deliver lightweight front-ends and approval workflows around automated processes
- Familiarity with Dataverse and Power Platform connectors, including creating custom connectors to integrate with in-house and third-party APIs
- Understanding of Power Platform governance and ALM — environments, solutions, source control integration, and DLP policies — and the judgment to guide others through the same
- Ability to architect end-to-end solutions that combine Power Platform with Python and AI components, choosing the right tool for each part of a workflow
- Working knowledge of Power BI for surfacing automation metrics and dashboards is a plus
- Sets standards for when to build in Power Platform versus Python/Selenium, sharing that judgment proactively as guidance for the wider team
AI/GPT Integration & Prompt Engineering
- Expert-level prompt engineering, treated as a core discipline they actively evangelize and teach across the team
- Proven ability to design, test, iterate, and troubleshoot complex multi-step prompts for data extraction, classification, content generation, entity recognition, and decision logic — and to coach others through the same
- Deep experience with prompt optimization techniques: few-shot learning, chain-of-thought prompting, role-based prompting, and context management — defines reusable prompt patterns/templates for the team
- Strong understanding of prompt limitations, hallucination handling, and output-validation strategies; establishes validation frameworks others can adopt
- Skilled at designing prompts that produce consistent, structured outputs (JSON, CSV) at scale
- Working knowledge of temperature, token limits, and parameter tuning for desired results
- Experience building and maintaining prompt template libraries with dynamic variable insertion, shared across the team
- Sound judgment on simple vs. complex prompting, and when to chain multiple prompts or agents
- Solid, hands-on experience with RESTful APIs (authentication, request/response handling, error management, rate limiting), including designing integration patterns that others reuse
Professional Competencies
Ownership, Initiative & Leadership
- Owns the SDLC not just for their own automations, but drives technical approach and delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives with full autonomy
- Acts as a force multiplier: proactively identifies process and technical improvements beyond their assigned scope and drives them to completion
- Default response to a blocker is a proposed solution or set of options — brings recommendations to leadership rather than surfacing problems alone
- Takes the lead on ambiguous or undefined requirements, shaping them into clear technical direction for themselves and others
- Comfortable representing the team in stakeholder and client conversations, and defending design decisions with sound reasoning
- Strong documentation habits for code, architecture decisions, and user guides — written so others can build on them independently
Mentorship & Team Enablement
- Actively mentors P1/P2 developers — pairs on complex problems, reviews code, and upskills others in Python, Selenium, and prompt engineering
- Serves as a go-to escalation point for technical challenges the rest of the team can't resolve on their own
- Leads or actively contributes to knowledge-sharing sessions, internal documentation, and reusable component libraries
- Supports onboarding of new team members, and contributes to skill assessment and hiring conversations when needed
- Builds up others rather than working in isolation — measures success by the team's output, not just individual delivery
Version Control & Collaboration
- Advanced Git/GitHub skills: branching strategy, merge conflict resolution, and defines repository/branching standards for the team
- Leads code reviews for peers, enforcing commit hygiene, .gitignore practices, and collaborative workflow standards
- Maintains clean, well-governed repository structures and drives adoption of these practices across the team's shared repositories
Code Quality & Best Practices
- Sets and enforces coding standards (PEP 8, logging, exception handling, debugging practices) across the team, not just their own code
- Establishes patterns for config management and environment variables for sensitive data, and ensures others follow them
- Drives code reusability at a team level — designs shared functions, classes, and modules that others build on
- Proactively identifies technical debt and drives remediation plans rather than letting issues persist
