Accountabilities:
- Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines using Python, SQL, and cloud-based technologies.
- Support data manipulation, transformation, querying, and integration from multiple data sources.
- Help build and maintain cloud-based data architectures and workflows.
- Assist with integrating REST APIs and external systems for efficient data ingestion and connectivity.
- Work with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow to support automated data processes.
- Learn and apply best practices in data engineering, including governance, security, and performance optimization.
- Document workflows, architecture components, technical decisions, and engineering processes.
- Identify opportunities to automate data processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, failures, and production issues using logging and observability tools.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve technical challenges and continuously improve data solutions.
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field at a Canadian university.
- Expected graduation date of December 2026 or later.
- Strong interest in data engineering, cloud technologies, and scalable data systems.
- Proficiency in Python, including experience with data manipulation libraries such as pandas, JSON, and requests.
- Knowledge of APIs, including REST, SOAP, and authentication methods such as OAuth2 or KeyPair Authentication.
- Familiarity with SQL and data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake or BigQuery.
- Experience or coursework involving cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Understanding of data security, privacy standards, and responsible handling of sensitive information.
- Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and data engineering workflows is an asset.
- Exposure to Snowflake features such as Snowpipe, staging/loading data, external functions, or user-defined functions is considered an advantage.
