Accountabilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers by providing technical direction, performance guidance, and career development support.
- Define and execute the enterprise data engineering roadmap, aligning priorities with broader data strategy and business objectives.
- Architect and oversee scalable data platforms and pipelines that integrate diverse data sources into reliable, governed, and accessible data foundations.
- Drive the development of data capabilities supporting analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and real-time decision-making.
- Partner with product, business, data science, and executive stakeholders to deliver trusted data solutions and enable advanced data discovery.
- Establish and promote DataOps best practices, including CI/CD workflows, data quality frameworks, observability, lineage tracking, and compliance processes.
- Lead architecture reviews, technology evaluations, and proof-of-concept initiatives to advance modern data engineering practices.
- Guide technical strategy around data platforms, governance, semantic layers, and enterprise data architecture.
- Communicate technical roadmaps, priorities, trade-offs, and progress effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Champion innovation through the adoption of emerging technologies, cloud platforms, and AI-enabled data solutions.
- 3+ years of direct people management experience leading data engineers or similar technical teams, including hiring, performance management, and delivery ownership.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, Big Data development, and designing enterprise-scale, fault-tolerant data platforms.
- Proven experience architecting and delivering complex data systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and cost optimization.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Experience with cloud data technologies including Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, AWS Glue, EMR, or Redshift.
- Expert-level proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with strong experience in PySpark/Spark distributed processing.
- Deep expertise in data modeling, data architecture, and modern data platform design.
- Strong understanding of machine learning lifecycles, MLOps practices, model governance, and production ML systems.
- Experience working with SQL databases, NoSQL technologies, AI-focused databases, vector databases, and graph databases.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, enterprise security practices, and compliance standards.
- Experience with streaming architectures such as Kafka, Spark Streaming, or Flink is preferred.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with LLM-driven workflows, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and AI orchestration frameworks is an asset.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Competitive annual compensation range of approximately $185,000 to $230,000 CAD, depending on qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal factors.
