Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Electrophysics (IR/Electro-Optical/Visual) Engineer to join our innovative Phantom Works (PW) organization in Berkeley, MO.

Job Description:

Phantom Works’ Technology Base business unit includes the Advanced Command & Control, Communications, Computing, and Cyber-defense (AC5) organization. AC5 connects, develops, integrates & demonstrates cross-domain capabilities for (BDS) platforms, products and systems. Within the AC5 portfolio, the Infra-Red Management Aid (IRMA) project pursues the development and integration of advanced technologies to support airborne platforms.

The IRMA engineering position provides key expertise to the software development team, developing algorithms, supporting the software development team, and performing analysis of laboratory and flight test data. The position requires knowledge and experience with platform signature and survivability modeling, Electro-Optical and Infra-Red (EO/IR) sensors and sensor processing, including impacts of environmental conditions. The IRMA engineer will support integration of IRMA mission systems into platform(s), including the development of enhancements/requirements for new platform types.

Position Responsibilities:

As a leader in this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Assists in developing and documenting requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components.
  • Conducts integrated systems testing to validate performance of designs to requirements. Collects data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements.  Supports project management by gathering project status data.
  • Gathers information to support development of sections of proposals to support development of new business.
  • Works independently and leads/mentors subordinate engineers
  • Excel in multi-discipline problem solving capabilities
  • Adapt or formulate new methods to solve wide range of system development, test, and integration problems
  • Prototype/develop algorithm capabilities in MATLAB or Python (C++ familiarity preferred)
  • Leverage detailed knowledge of IR domain (environment, sensor, and survivability modeling)
  • Utilize MODTRAN, image processing, HW/SW integration, sensor modeling, guidance & optimization methods, tools, and processes
  • Analyze flight test data (IRST, radiometry, lab-based, etc.)

Travel may be required up to 25% of the time depending on business need.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 + years of survivability modeling & simulation and/or EO/IR sensor development/processing experience
  • Experience/knowledge of communicating and interacting with senior project engineers
  • 10 + years’ experience in working with classified technologies and programs
  • 10 + years’ experience/knowledge of DoD Flight Test/Operational Exercise processes, customers and stakeholders
  • Experience across the advanced technology/rapid prototyping development cycle through Program of Record (PoR) transition (requirements development through design, development, integration, test, and release)
  • Experience in a DoD operational capacity of classified technologies/capabilities, including customer flight test, employment & sustainment
  • Familiarity with advanced User Interface/User eXperience (UI/UX) technologies for presentation of information for real-time situational awareness and pilot guidance cues

Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

 Summary pay range:

$164,900-$223,100
