Location: Emerson Innovation Center, Pune

Job Summary

We are seeking a technically skilled and globally collaborative Lead Firmware Engineer to join our team in Pune, India. The successful candidate in the Product Engineering team will lead the design and development of embedded software used for Emerson’s Electric Actuator products, ensuring high performance, reliability, and compliance with industrial standards.

Our mission is to deliver highly reliable products to the market, which is what Emerson is known for and what our customers expect. To support our mission, this role requires rapid familiarization with our embedded products, product design, and technological needs. A strong exposure to Embedded Product Development Life Cycle processes, tools & Agile methodologies is crucial to ensure process driven product development.

In this role, your key responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and enhance firmware, embedded solutions for industrial actuators.

  • Analyzing and optimizing firmware performance.

  • Adherence to standard processes for code development, secure coding, reuse, and portability.

  • Drive code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability for self and others in the team.

  • Troubleshooting and performing Root Cause Analysis of the issues.

  • Maintain documentation, bug tracking, and records related to firmware development.

  • Comprehend technical requirements, collaborate with other engineers to develop solutions that meet Emerson's quality standards. 

  • Manage the product backlog, define product requirements and User Stories.

  • Facilitate sprint planning, track sprint progress, and manage stakeholder communication.

  • Lead a small team of developers and test engineers, and mentor team members to remove the impediments to help them progress 

  • Lead firmware development projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating with other team members to meet project deadlines.

  • Work closely with Global Engineering manager to drive timely project execution

For this role, you will need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering, Electrical, or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in embedded firmware design, development and troubleshooting

  • 2+ years of experience in managing small teams

  • Experience working in 16/32-bit Microcontrollers/Microprocessors.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ for embedded systems.

  • Experience with implementing industrial protocols such as HART, Modbus, Profibus, FF, etc.

  • Low level firmware development for peripherals like Ethernet/USB/I2C/SPI/UART/Display etc.

  • Working experience in developing product with Cybersecurity as per IEC62443 

  • Experience developing firmware based on RTOS.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with global teams.

Preferred Qualifications that set you apart:

  • Master’s degree in electronics engineering, Electrical, or related field.

  • Experience with firmware development tools and IDEs (e.g., Keil, IAR Embedded Workbench).

  • Familiarity with IEC 61508 and SIL2 level firmware development

  • Familiarity with European Union Cyber Resilience Act

  • Communication Protocols –Bluetooth, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP will be advantageous.

  • Experience working in a global engineering environment. 

  • Agile software delivery using Azure DevOps and Microsoft Team Foundation Server.

  • Prior experience in the industrial automation or control systems industry.
