Trust Payments have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Trust Payments Group Legal & Co Sec Team.

Location: Hybrid- Bromley, United Kingdom
Salary: Competitive + Benefits

How will you make an impact in this role?
The Group Legal and Company Secretarial Team ("Legal") covers all legal and company secretarial work for entities within the Trust Payments Group. We provide legal services to colleagues in our commercial (partner and direct sales), product and operations teams, covering a wide range of areas including concluding sales legal terms, new product launches and other key business projects. We also collaborate closely with our Group Procurement, Risk and Compliance colleagues.

We're looking for someone to join the team who can manage their own workload effectively whilst receiving appropriate guidance from team members. You'll need to engage proactively with the business and be comfortable working within a small team. Day-to-day tasks will be assigned from across the team. Where necessary, we work with external law firms and other partners to deliver legal services, and part of the role will involve contributing to this work.

The Group Company Secretary function sits within the legal team. This function works with the Group boards, including our authorised firms in the UK and Malta, in addition to risk and other group committees. We also manage all statutory filings in Malta and the UK, and in other markets where required.

The Legal Team aims to utilise technology to transform how we operate and to improve the way in which colleagues engage with us. You'll need to be familiar with tools such as Microsoft Office, whilst also appreciating how technological change can be used to benefit colleagues in their interactions with the legal team.

What We Expect of You, Day To Day:
  • Work with the Commercial team on all contract-related matters: reviewing changes to our standard NDAs, merchant acquiring, ISO and referral partner terms and other legal documents; contributing to bespoke contract deals with key customers and partners; engaging confidently with the Commercial team on negotiations whilst ensuring all legal guidance remains compliant with applicable requirements.
  • Collaborate with our Procurement Team and the broader business on key supplier contract renewals; liaising with key internal stakeholders.
  • Where required, research applicable laws, rules and regulations — including UK/EU and other international jurisdictions and regulatory requirements applicable to Trust Payments' activities, merchants' or partners' business models; review legal opinions from partners; and where necessary, work with external counsel.
  • Advise the business where required on payment and/or card scheme rules or requirements.
  • Work with the Data Privacy Team on legal issues related to UK GDPR compliance where required.
  • Proactively keep the Legal Team updated on any material issues.
  • Research and anticipate legal issues that could impact the company; present these to the Legal Team and/or the business when appropriate; track and maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Deliver training to business and legal team colleagues on legal and regulatory topics.
  • Work alongside the global payments risk, compliance, commercial, product and marketing functions.
  • Bring enthusiasm for the role AI is playing in legal work and be ready to embrace AI tools and workflows to work more effectively and efficiently.
  • A good sense of humour is key — bringing a positive, collaborative approach to complex situations.
