We are seeking a highly creative, detail-oriented, and technically skilled 2D/3D Designer to support our luxury beayuty client's creative and marketing teams based in El Segundo, CA. Operating in a dynamic hybrid model, you will play a crucial role in bringing our brand’s physical and visual presence to life across various retail landscapes.
This unique position sits at the intersection of high-aesthetic graphic design, 3D retail environment planning, and hands-on visual merchandising. You will be responsible for everything from initial concept rendering to preparing flawless print-ready files and physically overseeing the installation of prototypes. If you have a keen eye for beauty and fashion, a strong understanding of structural fixture design, and a passion for creating immersive consumer experiences in environments like Sephora and Ulta, we want to hear from you.
Key Pillars of the Role
- 3D & Retail Environment Design: Translating design intent into 3D renders (using SketchUp, V-Ray, and/or Enscape) and technical drawings for retail fixtures, shop-in-shop setups, pop-ups, gondolas, and trade shows.
- 2D Graphic & Print Production: Developing graphic strips, print-ready files, displays, and POS (Point of Sale) materials. This includes collaborating directly with print vendors, handling proofing, and managing press checks.
- Visual Merchandising & Presentation: Creating professional PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite presentations to showcase design intent and merchandising requirements, specifically tailored to environments like Sephora and Ulta.
- Physical Prototype Oversight: Directly supervising and physically implementing prototype graphics and fixtures on retail gondolas for design reviews and seasonal refreshes.
- Advanced Concepting: Leveraging generative AI tools to facilitate rapid concept imagery and stay ahead of beauty/fashion industry trends.
Core Responsibilities
- Retail & Environmental Design: Conceptualize, render, and adapt designs for shop-in-shops, free-standing boutiques, pop-up events, trade show booths, and window displays.
- 3D Rendering & Drafting: Develop high-fidelity 3D renderings and design intent drawings to pitch ideas internally, brief vendors, and guide local execution.
- 2D Graphic & POS Production: Create and adapt graphic strips, headers, glorifiers, point-of-sale (POS) displays, and technical print layouts.
- Technical Print Preparation: Build precise, production-ready pre-press files (including linking assets, maintaining strict file naming structures, and applying bleed/die lines) for direct vendor submission.
- Physical Prototyping & Merchandising: Physically set up, test, and audit prototype graphics and fixtures on retail gondolas. Participate in active proofing and press checks to guarantee absolute brand consistency.
- Collaborative Concepting: Actively contribute creative ideas during brainstorming sessions and utilize modern tools (including AI-assisted concept generation) to iterate designs rapidly.
- Project & Timeline Management: Manage multiple project timelines simultaneously under tight deadlines, ensuring all creative assets are cataloged, organized, and delivered with a strong sense of urgency.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Retail/Industrial Design, or a closely related creative field.
Experience:
- 3+ years of professional experience in graphic, store, or retail fixture design—ideally within the beauty, cosmetics, or luxury retail sectors.
- Direct experience designing for major multi-brand beauty environments, specifically Sephora and/or Ulta Beauty (understanding their specific planograms, visual guidelines, and compliance rules is highly preferred).
Technical Tool Proficiency:
- 3D Modeling: Expert-level mastery of SketchUp paired with rendering engines like V-Ray and/or Enscape.
- Adobe Creative Suite: Exceptional fluency in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop for pre-press, presentation building, and asset creation.
- Presentation & Office Suite: Highly skilled in PowerPoint to craft clean, persuasive design decks for leadership and external retail partners, alongside standard Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel).
- Emerging Tech: Good understanding of generative AI platforms to facilitate rapid mood-boarding and concept image creation.
- AutoCAD skills are a highly valued plus.
Aesthetic & Soft Skills:
- An impeccable eye for luxury beauty, fashion, and editorial typography.
- Strong technical understanding of materials, retail structures, and structural integrity.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex design decisions clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment; open to constructive design feedback and collaborative iterations.
