About This Role:
Crusoe is building the world's favorite AI-first cloud infrastructure company, pioneering vertically integrated, purpose-built AI infrastructure solutions trusted by Fortune 500 companies. As a Senior/Staff Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you'll significantly contribute to the design, implementation, and management of critical control systems for Crusoe’s cutting-edge Power Generation solutions. You'll oversee the entire project lifecycle for power generation controls, from initial design and installation to optimization, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and initial operations support.
Your expertise in instrumentation, controls systems, data analysis, and energy optimization will be vital in delivering scalable and sustainable solutions that ensure the reliable and efficient operation of our facilities, accelerating the abundance of climate-aligned energy and intelligence. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who brings structural clarity to ambiguous environments and drives complex multi-disciplinary projects to completion. This is a full-time position.
What You’ll Be Working On:
Technical Problem-Solving: Resolve complex design and operational challenges related to Crusoe Power Generation Plant control systems, providing high-level technical expertise and strategic troubleshooting methodologies.
System Integration: Partner closely with mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers to seamlessly integrate control systems with other critical, large-scale plant systems.
Installation Oversight: Direct the physical field installation of control architectures, ensuring assemblies meet precise engineering design specifications and adhere to stringent industry codes.
System Testing & Validation: Conduct and coordinate comprehensive factory testing (FAT) and field testing (SAT) protocols to verify the correct, safe, and efficient operation of all deployed hardware.
Commissioning Leadership: Lead the field commissioning process, working hands-on with operational and construction teams to bring power generation assets online smoothly and resolve startup defects.
Real-time Monitoring & Telemetry: Architect and manage robust systems for real-time monitoring and high-fidelity data collection (SCADA, DCS, and PLCs) to continuously track and optimize thermal and electrical performance.
High-Tier Operational Support: Provide crucial, high-tier technical support during the initial operational phases of new plants, quickly resolving controls or communication failures.
Training & SOP Development: Author clear, detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical manuals, and training materials, and directly educate operations staff on control system use.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict control system compliance with all relevant safety standards, environmental rules, and industrial electric codes to maintain a highly secure operational environment.
Fail-Safe & Redundancy Engineering: Design and implement advanced fail-safe, emergency-trip, and network redundancy schemes to proactively mitigate hazards and boost plant operational reliability.
Quality Assurance Standardization: Establish, update, and rigorously enforce uniform Crusoe Instrumentation & Controls standards across all projects to ensure structural consistency and ease of maintenance.
Strategic Project & Technology Planning: Drive the schedule creation and resource planning for all control-system deliverables, while researching emerging industrial automation trends to identify system performance upgrades.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
Educational Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, or a related scientific/technical field is required.
Professional Experience: 8–12+ years of progressive professional experience in control systems design, commissioning, or industrial automation engineering (targeting senior-to-staff-level autonomy).
Power Systems Background: Direct, hands-on engineering experience working in utility-scale power systems, power generation plants, or heavy electrical distribution environments.
Controls System Expertise: Deep understanding of industrial networks, electrical power management systems (EPMS), data historians, and mechanical system controls.
Collaboration & Decisiveness: Proven ability to navigate ambiguity, drive design consensus, and collaborate across highly matrixed departments to execute demanding organization-wide goals.
Technical Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of translating complex technical telemetry, network, and electrical diagrams into clear summaries for non-technical stakeholders.
Data-Driven Mindset: A strong passion for utilizing historical and real-time operational data to drive systemic, measurable efficiency improvements.
Bonus Points:
Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or active Professional Engineer (PE) License.
Experience designing and managing Utility Power Plant DCS (Distributed Control Systems) or custom PLC-based platforms.
Hands-on system expertise with: SEL PowerMax, SEL RTAC, Ignition SCADA, Ignition Historian, Canary Historian, GE Mark VIE Turbine Control Systems, Solar Rockwell PLC, Allen-Bradley PLCs, ComAp, or ESM 2 Waukesha.
Active industry credentials such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Project Management Professional (PMP).

Compensation: Compensation will be paid in the range of $150,000 - $170,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers.
