The purpose of this role is to oversee and manage and help set up Synpulse’s new Centre of Excellence’s Reinsurance Accounting Team which we are building to support a UK based specialist (Re) Insurance client company. The role is required to provide comprehensive review, analysis, reporting and control to support the client’s business in all reinsurance aspects.

The purpose of this role is to oversee and manage and help set up Synpulse’s new Centre of Excellence’s Reinsurance Accounting Team which we are building to support a UK based specialist (Re) Insurance client company. The role is required to provide comprehensive review, analysis, reporting and control to support the client’s business in all reinsurance aspects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for the accuracy of the client’s reinsurance contract entry and quarterly internal risk reviews.
- Ownership of the production and review of the quarterly ultimate reinsurance recoveries for the client.
- Sign off responsibility for the accuracy of key outputs prior to distribution to the wider client business.
- Represent the client’s Ceded Reinsurance function at group peer review and claims committee including ownership of queries raised by internal stakeholders where appropriate.
- Work in collaboration with client stakeholders from the finance, actuarial & ceded RI functions to investigate / resolve variances
- Represent the client’s Ceded Reinsurance function on current and future client projects.
- Support client administration managers on complex reinsurance issues as required.
- Provide ad-hoc assistance to the client’s Administration Managers, including clearing any other peer review backlog that may exist.
- Assure new reinsurance commitments are aligned with the client’s operating model.
- Provide technical support and consultation to the client’s Ceded Reinsurance system transformation programme.
- Active involvement in ongoing development of the client’s reinsurance administration procedures and systems.
- Provide any other technical support necessary to assist the client Operations Manager with the successful delivery of the Ceded Reinsurance strategy.
- Lead monthly internal team credit control meetings, determine actions required for older unsettled accounts.
- Provide technical support to internal and external audit processes as required.
- Improve and review the quality, accuracy and timeliness of the controls in place to support close processes.
- Drive improvements in efficiency and control leading to increased accuracy more timely processing.
- Management of circa 3 Ceded Reinsurance Technicians (initially) with the possibility for future team expansion.
- Drive team growth through development, coaching and mentoring of team members.
Qualifications and Experience
- Finance or Economics degree (progress towards an accountancy or audit professional qualification is considered a plus)
- 5+ years of relevant experience in an insurance/reinsurance company
- Experience in ceded reinsurance is desired but not essential
- English language proficiency (C1 or above)
- Experience supervising and developing others
Candidate Requirements
- Detail oriented
- Proven ability to prioritize and organize workload effectively and work with speed and accuracy
- Outcome focused, self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
- A strong working knowledge of reinsurance including underwriting, claims, accounting, finance and associated processes, controls and systems (relevant experience in a Reinsurer/Broker would be a plus)
- Ability to work flexibly to complete duties of the role, particularly during peak periods
- Working knowledge of relevant trends and information within the insurance industry
- Technical and/or analytic expertise that can be adapted to current technologies
- Experience supporting work allocation and working to SLAs / deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, partners and internal teams
- Knowledge of London market reinsurance administration is a plus - ideally with a detailed understanding of all types of reinsurance
- Provide training and mentoring to team-members to support learning and development
- Process transformation and control improvement experience is a plus
