In this pivotal role, you will balance strategic people management with deep, hands-on technical leadership to oversee the design, development, and execution of enterprise-scale cloud data pipelines and robust API ecosystems.The ideal candidate possesses a strong, active background in distributed computing (Apache Spark, Databricks) and cloud-native orchestration (Spark on Kubernetes/EKS, MWAA). A critical focus of this role will be leading the migration of legacy on-premises data workloads to the cloud, requiring a solid understanding of secure hybrid cloud networking (AWS Direct Connect, AWS PrivateLink), modern data warehousing (Snowflake, S3, Glue), and API development. You will drive agile delivery, mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-performance, secure, and scalable data solutions.Key Responsibilities:Mentor & grow data + API engineers; drive Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban); manage performance, capacity, and hirinHands-on Apache Spark (PySpark/Scala) development; Spark on Kubernetes (EKS); data lake/warehouse on S3, Glue, Snowflake, Databricks; MWAA orchestrationLead on-prem (Hadoop, Teradata, RDBMS) to cloud migrations; secure hybrid connectivity via AWS Direct Connect & PrivateLinkBuild RESTful/gRPC APIs; microservices architecture; API gateway integration; OAuth2/OIDC authenticationEnforce CI/CD (GitOps), code quality standards; optimize cloud costs (Databricks, Snowflake, EKS); ensure GDPR, CCPA, SOC2 complianceRequired Qualifications & Skills:Technical Skills6+ years hands-on Apache Spark (PySpark/Scala) — internals, tuning, DataFramesSpark on Kubernetes (EKS) deployment & managementAWS: S3, Glue, MWAA, PrivateLink, Direct ConnectData Platforms: Snowflake, Databricks (Delta Lake / Lakehouse)API Engineering: Java/Python/Go, Apigee/Kong, microservicesDevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Jenkins/GitLab CI/GitHub Actions4+ years managing engineering teams (data + software/API)Leadership & Management SkillsManagement Experience: 4+ years of experience directly managing engineering teams (preferably managing both data and software/API engineers).Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders.Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technical roadmaps with broader business objectives and drive execution.Education & ExperienceBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.10+ years of overall experience in software engineering and data engineering, with a focus on cloud-scale data platforms.Preferred QualificationsActive certifications in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Data Engineer, Advanced Networking, Solutions Architect), Databricks, or Snowflake.Experience with data mesh concepts and data governance frameworks in highly regulated industries (e.g., Finance, Healthcare).This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
