The Associate Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, University of Rochester Medicine (AVP) serves as a senior leader within the Office of the Chief of Staff and Strategic Operations, University of Rochester Medicine (COSSO), responsible for driving the execution of University of Rochester Medicine priorities and leading strategic initiatives that advance the academic health system's mission and operational objectives. Reporting to the Vice President, Chief of Staff and Strategic Operations, the AVP partners closely with executive leaders, clinical and administrative stakeholders, and operational teams to coordinate, implement, and monitor high-priority initiatives across the organization.The AVP provides leadership for complex, cross-functional projects that require strong organizational alignment, change management, performance oversight, and operational excellence. This role serves as a key integrator across the health system, ensuring strategic priorities are effectively translated into measurable outcomes and sustainable results.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Execution
- Under the direction of the COSSO works collaboratively in the development, implementation, and monitoring of enterprise strategic initiatives that advance organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with executive leaders to translate strategic goals into actionable plans, measurable outcomes, and implementation roadmaps.
- Identify emerging market trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Support annual and multi-year strategic planning processes across the enterprise.
Leadership
- Directs and supports high-priority, cross-functional projects and initiatives involving enterprise transformation, growth, and organizational effectiveness.
- Oversee University of Rochester Medicine change management, project management, and business intelligence teams.
- Establish initiative governance structures, project management frameworks, milestones, and performance metrics.
- Identify barriers to execution and facilitate resolution of complex organizational challenges.
- Monitor progress against strategic objectives and provide recommendations to accelerate performance.
- Ensure timely execution of strategic projects while managing risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations.
- Facilitate executive-level decision-making through data-driven analysis and recommendations.
Business Development and Growth Strategy
- Evaluate opportunities for strategic partnerships, affiliations, joint ventures, service line expansion, and market growth.
- Conduct market assessments, competitive analyses, and business case development.
- Support due diligence activities and integration planning for strategic partnerships and acquisitions.
- Collaborate with operational leaders to identify and pursue growth opportunities aligned with organizational objectives.
Performance Management and Analytics
- Develop dashboards and reporting mechanisms to track strategic initiative progress and organizational performance.
- Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Utilize data analytics and benchmarking to support strategic recommendations.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership, executive committees, and governing boards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with clinical, academic, research, and administrative leaders.
- Facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholder groups to achieve enterprise objectives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on strategic priorities and organizational challenges.
- Represent the organization in strategic planning discussions with external partners and community stakeholders.
Change Leadership
- Lead organizational change and operational readiness efforts associated with strategic initiatives.
- Develop communication and engagement strategies that support successful implementation and adoption.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and develop team members responsible for strategic planning, project management, and business analysis.
Qualifications:
Required Education
- Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, health policy, or a related field.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare strategy, service line administration, academic health system administration, or related fields.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale strategic initiatives and enterprise transformation efforts.
- Experience working within complex healthcare organizations, academic medical centers, or integrated health systems.
- Strong financial, operational, and analytical acumen.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, or growth strategy initiatives.

Compensation Range:
$250,000 - $350,000
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
