Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer III (Level 10), you will play a key role in the design, development, and support of core Post Trade systems, with a strong emphasis on mainframe and AS400 (IBM i) applications. You will contribute to delivering high-quality, resilient solutions that meet business, compliance, and operational needs.
You will act as a senior technical contributor, providing leadership in system design, mentoring team members, and ensuring adherence to engineering and governance standards.
Job Details – What You’ll Do
Solution Development & Engineering
Design, develop, test, and maintain applications on Mainframe (e.g., COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, SAS) and AS400 (RPG, CL, Cobol, SQL, DB2 for i) platforms supporting Post Trade functions
Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and platform standards
Contribute to system modernization initiatives, including integration with distributed platforms and APIs
Application Maintenance & Production Support
Provide L3 support for production systems, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and minimizing business impact
Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring issues
Ensure applications meet availability, performance, and resilience targets
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Ensure all development and changes comply with SOX, ITGC, and internal audit requirements
Maintain high standards for documentation, traceability, and change management
Support regulatory and audit reviews by providing required artifacts and technical insights
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and upstream/downstream system teams to align on requirements and delivery timelines
Participate in agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives)
Contribute to intake discussions to define solution scope and technical feasibility
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
Provide guidance to junior and intermediate engineers on best practices, coding standards, and platform usage
Participate in code reviews and promote quality engineering practices
Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tooling, and standards
Job Requirements – What You Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications
8+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe and/or AS400 application development and support
Strong programming expertise in:
Mainframe: COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, SAS
AS400: RPG (RPGLE), CL, DB2 for I, SQL, Cobol
Proven experience supporting mission-critical financial or banking applications, preferably within wealth or capital markets
Deep understanding of batch processing, job scheduling, and data processing pipelines in mainframe/AS400 environments
Experience with change management and code promotion tools (e.g., Endevor, MKS Implementer or equivalent) aligned with controlled environments
Strong knowledge of ITGC, SOX, and audit-compliant development practices
Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree, Post Graduate degree or Technical Certificate
Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)
Experience with Post Trade systems (e.g., settlement, reconciliation, accounting platforms)
Exposure to system integration with distributed systems (e.g., APIs, middleware)
Familiarity with modernization initiatives (e.g., legacy system transformation, hybrid architectures)
Experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery environments
Knowledge of data governance and privacy requirements in regulated environments
