Nymbus (https://nymbus.com/) is not just a leader in fintech; we are a community of innovators passionate about reimagining banking. Our modern core platform and cloud based technology serve as the backbone for financial institutions eager to modernize and excel.
Nymbus is building the next generation of fintech platforms, and Domain Owners are among the most consequential leadership roles in delivering that vision. This role owns the Core Banking domain: the foundational system layer that processes every financial transaction, maintains every account balance, and enforces every posting rule across the platform.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
We are a remote first company, with occasional travel required for team collaboration or client engagement.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Domain Owner for Core Banking is the senior product leader responsible for the strategic direction, squad output, and commercial outcomes of the Core Banking domain at Nymbus.
You lead multiple squads that build and evolve the core banking engine — deposits, lending, account structures, posting models, settlement, interest accrual, and the fundamental ledger infrastructure that every other domain depends on. You manage Builders directly, collaborate daily with others assigned to your domain, and are accountable for everything your domain ships.
This is not a traditional product management role. You operate with four capabilities simultaneously: strategic product leadership, people leadership of Builders, domain subject matter expertise, and AI-first execution. You are expected to be a hands-on SME in core banking systems — someone who has designed, built, or deeply operated core banking platforms and can guide your teams through the complexity of core banking, from operations, finance, teller, to products, entitlements, GL and reconciliations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Product Leadership
- Owns and executes on the product roadmap for the Core Banking domain
- Define the vision for how Nymbus builds a modern, configurable, multi-tenant core banking engine
- Prioritize squad work against business outcomes, client needs, and platform strategy
- Represent the domain in executive planning, client conversations, and board-level updates
- Drive commercial outcomes — your domain's reliability and capability directly impacts every client relationship
People Leadership (Builder Management)
- Hire, develop, and performance-manage all Builders in the Core Banking domain
- Set clear expectations for AI-first execution, specification quality, and delivery velocity
- Coach Builders on domain expertise — particularly the nuances of ledger integrity, posting models, and regulatory constraints
- Build a team culture of precision, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Ensure Builders operate at the Nymbus hiring bar and AI fluency standard
Domain Subject Matter Expertise
- Serve as the authoritative SME for core banking within Nymbus
- Design and reason about account hierarchies, sub-ledgers, and posting models including memo posting, hard posting, reversals, and adjustments
- Understand batch processing, end-of-day settlement, and cutover windows including how posting order and timing affect balances and downstream systems
- Define product configuration logic for deposit products (fees, interest accrual, minimum balances, tiering, exceptions)
- Model core-to-digital integration patterns including event propagation, synchronization delays, and reconciliation strategies
- Address data integrity, auditability, and operational controls required for regulatory and financial reporting
- Guide teams through loan servicing complexity — payment application logic, accrual calculations, payoff quotes, per-diem interest, and exception workflows
- Understand regulatory frameworks deeply: Reg D, Reg CC, Reg DD, Reg Z, TILA, RESPA, and their operational implications on core system behavior
- Navigate the tension between multi-tenant configurability and system correctness — every institution has different product configurations, but the ledger must always balance
AI Execution
- Model AI-first working practices for the domain — use Kiro, Claude, and spec-driven development personally
- Set the standard for how Builders in your domain leverage AI tools
- Ensure specifications for core banking logic are precise, testable, and take full advantage of AI-augmented workflows
- Drive continuous improvement in squad velocity through AI-native methodology
- Evaluate and adopt new AI tools and practices that accelerate domain output
- Recognize that core banking demands exceptional specification precision — AI tools must enhance, not shortcut, correctness
Cross-Domain Coordination
- Coordinate with other Domain Owners on integration surfaces — Digital Banking, Payments, and Origination all depend on Core
- Own the contract between Core and its consumers — define how other domains interact with the ledger, accounts, and posting engine
- Partner with the Architecture Spine on platform-wide patterns that affect Core Banking
- Collaborate with COEs (UX, QA, Security) on standards compliance
- Align with Cloud and Infrastructure on performance, scalability, and batch processing requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
AI-First Mindset
- Active, hands-on experience with AI-assisted product design and development workflows
- Demonstrated use of AI tools for specification, iteration, and problem-solving
- Willingness to model AI-first practices for the entire domain
- Comfort operating in a spec-first, AI-native development methodology
- Understanding that AI-first does not mean lower precision — core banking demands both speed and correctness
Core Banking Expertise (Required)
- 8+ years in product, engineering, or technical leadership roles in core banking or financial services infrastructure
- Deep hands-on experience with core banking platforms — you have built, operated, or led teams building core systems (deposits, lending, or both)
- Expert-level understanding of ledger structures, posting models, and double-entry accounting as implemented in bank systems
- Experience with loan servicing systems — lifecycle management, payment application, accrual, and exception handling
- Understanding of batch processing, settlement, and end-of-day reconciliation at operational depth
- Experience with multi-tenant core banking platforms serving multiple financial institutions
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks affecting core operations (Reg D, Reg CC, Reg DD, Reg Z, TILA, RESPA, BSA/AML)
- Experience navigating the tradeoffs between configurability, correctness, and performance in core systems
Leadership & Management
- Experience managing and developing product builders, engineers, or technical product managers
- Track record of building high-performing teams that ship working software in high-stakes, correctness-critical domains
- Ability to operate at strategic and tactical levels simultaneously — roadmap one day, posting model specification review the next
- Experience making priority tradeoffs across competing demands with incomplete information
- Comfort with direct accountability for commercial outcomes tied to platform reliability and capability
Technical Fluency
- Strong understanding of database design, transaction processing, and distributed systems
- Deep familiarity with ledger architecture, ACID compliance, and data consistency patterns
- Ability to engage deeply in technical design discussions with Architects on posting engines, batch processing, and integration contracts
- Experience with modern development workflows, CI/CD, and deployment practices for mission-critical systems
- Understanding of performance engineering for high-volume transaction processing
