Baggage Handler

 The Baggage Handler is responsible for assisting airline passengers with proper handling, processing, and transportation of their luggage. Meet all arrivals as scheduled and assist passengers at baggage claim loading, unloading, carrying or otherwise transporting passenger luggage to and from specified areas. Assist in proper handling of over-sized, unusually shaped luggage including skis, dog kennels and strollers. Ensure passenger luggage is placed safely on the baggage handling system. Adhere to all airport and government policies and regulations. Ability to effectively communicate with passengers, co-workers, shift coordinators, managers, and security personnel.  

  SALARY:  $21.25/hr. 
  • The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position.  A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

  • Ability to read IATA tickets to determine flight departure times and connecting carriers.  
  • Screens all interline passengers prior to placing bags on the interline return belts.  
  • Ensures baggage tagging is correct.  
  • Direct and assist passengers with mischecked or short-checked bags.  
  • Handles misplaced/lost baggage claims and provides reports to Carriers.  
  • Evaluates customer’s need concerning airline locations.  
  • Is able to meet the Station’s attendance standards.
  • Ability to be empathetic, mindful, and helpful to customers who have been separated from the belongings.  
  • Resourceful when dealing with mishandled baggage by tracing and reuniting customers with their belongings.  
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds or more on occasion throughout their work shift. 
  • Stand, walk, bend and lift for ¾ of more of the work shift. 
  • Must strictly adhere to Company, Carrier and Airport policies and guidelines. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of prior work experience preferred
  • 1 year Warehouse experience
  • Able to lift 50lbs plus
