Accountabilities:
- Lead engineering efforts for enterprise API gateway platforms, including legacy gateway technologies and modern target environments.
- Design, configure, and oversee gateway capabilities including routes, services, consumers, policies, plugins, certificates, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, logging, and telemetry.
- Support API migration initiatives by reviewing inventories, defining migration sequences, managing transition plans, supporting dual-run approaches, and ensuring successful cutovers.
- Implement secure API gateway patterns aligned with Zero Trust principles, including OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, JWT, mTLS, RBAC, token validation, and policy enforcement.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to gateway engineers, supporting implementation activities, troubleshooting, documentation, and validation processes.
- Collaborate with architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, networking, identity, monitoring, ServiceNow, and CI/CD teams to ensure successful delivery.
- Develop and review technical documentation, configuration baselines, migration plans, operational procedures, release materials, and knowledge-transfer resources.
- Support production readiness by ensuring proper testing, validation evidence, change management processes, and rollback strategies are in place.
- 7+ years of experience in API management, middleware engineering, integration engineering, platform engineering, or related enterprise technology roles.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise API gateway platforms such as Google Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft Anypoint API Manager, Microsoft Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, IBM API Connect, Red Hat 3scale, Axway Amplify, WSO2 API Manager, Tyk, IBM webMethods API Gateway, or similar technologies.
- Proven experience implementing and maintaining secure API gateway solutions in production environments.
- Strong understanding of API security concepts, including OAuth2/OIDC, SAML, JWT, mTLS, API keys, RBAC, certificates, scopes, claims, secrets management, and least-privilege access.
- Experience working with REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, JSON/XML formats, HTTP/S protocols, TLS, routing, policy enforcement, and API lifecycle management.
- Experience supporting enterprise production releases, including validation, operational acceptance, change management, and rollback planning.
- Strong technical documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience with IBM webMethods API Gateway and modern API gateway migration projects is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with identity platforms, including Ping Access, Ping Federate, OAuth2/OIDC/SAML integrations, token transformation, and protected application routing is a plus.
- Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, containers, hybrid cloud environments, GitOps, configuration-as-code, observability tools, or related technologies is beneficial.
- Knowledge of federal security frameworks such as FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, or similar standards is preferred.
- Relevant certifications in API management, cloud technologies, Kubernetes/OpenShift, or cybersecurity are valued.
