A bit about the role

We are seeking an exceptional Event Director to lead the strategy, growth, production, and execution of Groceryshop—the leading event for grocery and CPG innovation.

This is a high-impact leadership role with full responsibility for the event's commercial performance, customer experience, and long-term growth strategy. You'll oversee every aspect of Groceryshop, including sponsorship and exhibition revenue, hosted retailer recruitment, delegate attendance, content strategy, partnerships, operations, and product development.

Working closely with senior leaders across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Content, Hosted Programs, and Customer Success, you'll ensure alignment across the business while continually evolving Groceryshop to meet the changing needs of grocery, mass market, warehouse, convenience, drug, and specialty retailers, as well as CPG brands, technology providers, and the wider commerce ecosystem.

The successful candidate combines strong commercial acumen with outstanding leadership, strategic thinking, customer obsession, and a passion for building world-class event brands.

As part of your role, you'll

Part One – Strategic Leadership & Event Ownership

Own the overall vision, strategy, and delivery of Groceryshop.
Develop annual growth plans aligned with revenue, attendance, customer satisfaction, and profitability objectives.
Lead cross-functional planning and execution, ensuring all teams operate against shared priorities and milestones.
Drive continuous improvement across every aspect of the customer experience.
Serve as the internal champion and external ambassador for the Groceryshop brand.

Part Two – Commercial Performance

Own event revenue and profitability targets.
Partner with Sales leadership to maximize sponsorship, exhibition, hosted retailer, and delegate revenue.
Review sales pipelines, forecasts, conversion metrics, and inventory utilization.
Support the sale of strategic, high-value sponsorship opportunities with leading technology, retail media, data, and service providers.
Develop new revenue streams, sponsorship formats, products, and commercial partnerships.
Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities.

Part Three – Product Development & Customer Experience

Continuously evolve the Groceryshop proposition to ensure it remains the industry's premier event for grocery innovation.
Develop new content formats, networking experiences, hosted programs, retailer engagement initiatives, and attendee experiences.
Utilize customer feedback, market research, and industry insights to inform product decisions.
Ensure Groceryshop consistently delivers exceptional value to retailers, brands, sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees.

Part Four – Hosted Retailer & Industry Engagement

Partner with the hosted retailer team to recruit and retain senior grocery executives.
Build relationships with leading grocery retailers, wholesalers, convenience operators, marketplaces, delivery platforms, and emerging commerce businesses.
Expand strategic retailer participation across North America and internationally.
Maintain a deep understanding of grocery industry priorities, innovation trends, and competitive dynamics.
Part Five – Industry Partnerships & Business Development
Build and maintain relationships with industry associations, research organizations, media partners, and influential industry leaders.
Identify strategic partnerships that strengthen Groceryshop's market position and accelerate growth.
Represent Groceryshop at industry events and meetings throughout the year.

Part Six – Financial & P&L Management

Own the Groceryshop P&L.
Develop accurate budgets and revenue forecasts.
Monitor costs, margins, and resource allocation throughout the event lifecycle.
Partner with Finance and Operations to optimize profitability while maintaining an exceptional customer experience.
Report regularly on commercial performance, forecasts, and growth opportunities.

Part Seven – Team Leadership

Lead and inspire cross-functional teams across Sales, Marketing, Content, Operations, Hosted Programs, and Customer Success.
Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and high-performance culture.
Coach, develop, and support managers and team members.
Drive accountability, clear communication, and continuous improvement across the event team.

What we're looking for

Experience:

5+ years of experience leading large-scale events, commercial businesses, or strategic initiatives within high-growth B2B organizations.
5+ years of leadership experience managing cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated success owning significant revenue and profit targets.
Strong financial planning, forecasting, and budget management experience.
Experience within events, media, retail, grocery, consumer goods, technology, or adjacent industries is highly desirable.
Ability to work from our Midtown Manhattan office three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday).

Knowledge & Skills:

Understanding of the North American grocery, retail, consumer goods, retail media, or commerce ecosystem is preferred.
Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
Strong commercial instincts with a track record of identifying and delivering growth opportunities.
Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
Analytical, data-driven decision-making skills.
Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills.
