Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a Compliance Manager to support the ongoing development and oversight of its compliance and governance framework. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), this role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of regulatory and compliance obligations while supporting the organization's designated Principal Representative. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, maintaining a robust compliance framework, supporting corporate governance processes, coordinating regulatory reporting and filings, and promoting ongoing regulatory readiness across the business.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain Bermuda compliance policies and procedures, coordinate policy updates and approvals, and ensure alignment with the Insurance Code of Conduct, AML, BCP, and governance expectations
- Maintain a regulatory calendar, compliance monitoring plan, and supporting documentation, and track remediation actions to ensure deadlines are met
- Support all BMA filings, including statutory returns, the Financial Condition Report (FCR), and regulatory declarations, coordinating inputs across Finance, Actuarial, and Risk teams to ensure filings are complete, accurate, and consistent with internal reporting
- Support the Principal Representative in all interactions with the BMA — preparing briefing materials, drafting responses to regulatory inquiries, managing follow-ups, acting as operational liaison, and maintaining readiness for BMA inspections
- Prepare compliance reporting and support production of regulatory and risk materials for the Board and Committees, tracking action items and ensuring required filings, notifications, and approvals tied to Board decisions are completed
- Support oversight of key outsourced providers, including due diligence, ongoing monitoring, and annual reviews
- Support the CRO in maintaining the risk management framework and annual risk assessment processes, ensuring risks, issues, and remediation actions are properly documented and escalated
- Monitor regulatory developments from the BMA, perform gap analyses, and lead implementation of regulatory changes
- Deliver compliance training, promote awareness of Bermuda regulatory requirements, and contribute to a strong compliance culture
What you’ll need
- 5–10+ years of insurance or reinsurance compliance experience, including Bermuda regulatory experience and a track record of developing and maintaining relationships with regulators, including the Bermuda Monetary Authority
- Experience with Bermuda corporate governance requirements and with designing, maintaining, and testing policies, procedures, and controls
- Experience with regulatory filings, and a deep understanding of the Bermuda Insurance Act 1978, related regulations, and the associated regulatory framework
- Familiarity with the Insurance Code of Conduct and related BMA guidelines, and with AML and sanctions frameworks
- Exposure to capital/solvency regimes (e.g., BSCR, EBS) beneficial, and knowledge of compliance obligations related to outsourcing, service providers, and delegated authority arrangements
- Strong understanding of ethical standards, regulatory expectations, and a culture of compliance
- Ability to build and maintain partnerships with internal stakeholders as well as contacts within the broader regulatory, legal, and compliance community, and to work across the enterprise and present complex matters to senior business leaders
- Ability to stay current on regulatory developments in Bermuda
- Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills, with high attention to detail
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, strong work ethic, and a high level of personal integrity and accountability
