Physician - Fee Basis (Surgical Fellow/Chief Resident)

The Fee Basis Physician will provide intermittent surgical care to support the clinical operations of the Medical Center at VA Boston Healthcare System. This is a Fee Basis position and payment will be made on a fee for service basis. There is an aggregate limit of $400,000. This means you cannot make over $400,000 in a calendar year, and this is inclusive of all combined appointments. The Fee Basis Physician Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -Delivering comprehensive perioperative and operative care to Veteran patients. -Assisting or performing general surgical procedures as authorized by approved privileges. -Participating in surgical consultations, inpatient services, outpatient follow-up, and procedural care. -Ensuring timely and accurate documentation in CPRS/VISTA. -Complying with all VHA, Joint Commission, and federal standards of care. -Maintaining professional conduct consistent with VA values and medical staff standards. Specific Clinical Duties - Perform preoperative assessments and develop surgical care plans. - Assist or perform general surgical procedures in the operating room. - Conduct postoperative rounds, manage complications, and coordinate follow-up. - Provide inpatient consultative services. - Utilize VHA-approved imaging modalities, surgical tools, and perioperative equipment. - Participate in quality improvement meetings, M&M conferences, and clinical case reviews. - All encounters must be documented in CPRS within required timeframes. - The physician must comply with VHA policies regarding informed consent, perioperative safety, medication reconciliation, and quality reporting. - Compliance with infection control, patient safety, and OR protocols are mandatory Reports clinically to attending surgeons and administratively to the Chief of Surgery. Continued service dependent on performance and privilege. Pay: Starting salary limitation of up to $300,000 can be earned in a calendar year. Unit Work Description/ Pay Per Unit: Monday-Friday= $1,020.00 Saturday/Sunday/Holidays= $2,040.00 Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Work Schedule: Appointment is intermittent and based solely on the needs of the Surgical Service. - No guaranteed hours or fixed schedule. - Assignments may include OR coverage, inpatient care, outpatient clinics, procedural support, or emergent coverage
