A Day in the Life

At Medtronic plc’s R&D Department in Galway, Ireland, we develop cutting-edge medical devices across Coronary, Structural Heart, PVH, Cardiac Rhythm Management, and Neuromodulation. Our Galway engineers directly contribute to innovative products used in medical procedures.

As an R&D Engineering Program Manager within the Interventional Cardiology Therapies (ICT) operating unit, you will provide high-level leadership and direction to an R&D team, ensuring effective execution of strategic and tactical R&D activities.

A Day in The Life Of:

  • Lead complex medical device programs from concept through technical development and to commercialization, coordinating cross-functional teams across Galway and U.S. partner development sites to ensure aligned execution, milestone delivery, and successful global product launches.
  • Manage developed or mature programs using defined plans and delivery methodologies.
  • Influence and align cross-functional and senior stakeholders (including Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Marketing, and Operations) to resolve complex issues, drive decision-making, and ensure execution plans are delivered effectively.
  • Lead, direct, and technically review the work of teams, experienced professionals, and vendors.
  • Accountable for product design and program performance, process effectiveness, budget, risk, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead and develop team members and vendors, partnering with functional and resource managers to assess capability needs, address skill gaps, and build a high-performing team aligned to program delivery.
  • Promote engineering fundamentals, structured problem solving, and technical innovation.
  • Establish program objectives, timelines, milestones, budgets, and resourcing plans. Manage technical and execution risk.
  • Execute project plans and adjust as needed to meet changing requirements.
  • Represent Medtronic effectively with external customers.
  • Set clear expectations and performance standards for team members. Ability to critically review engineering decisions and data
  • Build cross-functional relationships and ensure R&D teams have the resources to perform effectively.

Key Skills & Experience 

  • Level 8 degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline and minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Proven track record in technical product development and program management within a regulated environment
  • Medical device product development experience is desirable
  • Technical experience in DOE, Six Sigma, DFM, or related methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong stakeholder management capability
  • Experience in working with KOLs to identify unmet therapy needs.
  • Experience interfacing with physicians and translating feedback into device concepts

Pay range / Rango salarial / Intervalo salarial /Fascia retributiva / Tranche de salaire / Gehaltsband / Salaribereik:  Ireland: 84,880.00 EUR - 127,320.00 EUR | 

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
