What this job involves:
As a Data Center Lead Technician at JLL, you'll serve as the cornerstone of mission-critical facilities operations at the Energy Transfer Data Center and Alternate Control Center in Houston, Texas. This role places you at the heart of 24x7 operations, where you'll lead a dedicated team responsible for maintaining all aspects of these critical facilities—from electrical systems including utility power, UPS, and standby generators, to mechanical systems, HVAC infrastructure, and building automation controls through Computrols. Beyond day-to-day oversight, you'll personally coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance across all critical systems, ensuring zero downtime and optimal performance. At JLL, we embrace more innovative ways of working and prioritize opportunities to strengthen and advance your career, and this position offers exactly that—you'll participate in the after-hours and weekend on-call rotation, tackle complex troubleshooting challenges, and step up as a team leader during capital and O&M projects. You'll also serve as backup to the Data Center Operations Manager, gaining valuable leadership experience while supporting colocation customers and ensuring seamless facility operations in this dynamic, hands-on environment.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Conduct regularly scheduled equipment rounds at both ETDC and ACC facilities, monitoring all critical systems and identifying potential issues before they impact operations
Perform maintenance and repairs on normal, UPS, and standby electrical power systems, ensuring continuous uptime for mission-critical infrastructure
Maintain and repair chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and associated mechanical systems to support optimal data center environmental conditions
Execute regular maintenance and repairs on computer room and office air handler units, maintaining precise temperature and humidity controls
Troubleshoot and repair facilities common areas, grounds, and building systems as needed throughout the workday
Coordinate, schedule, and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance programs for all facility equipment, keeping detailed records and ensuring compliance
Monitor and respond to the Computrols Building Automation System daily, adjusting controls and investigating alarms to maintain facility stability
Supervise electrical, mechanical, and HVAC contractors during capital and O&M projects, ensuring work meets quality standards and safety requirements
Support colocation customers by connecting and disconnecting electrical power whips, replacing raised floor tiles, and responding to general facility requests promptly
Required qualifications:
Associate's degree or high school diploma with additional technical education in electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems
8+ years of hands-on experience operating and controlling critical data center infrastructure including electrical distribution systems (switchgear breakers, power generators, paralleling switchgear, automatic transfer switches, UPS modules, PDUs, A&B static switches), large-scale refrigeration systems (chillers and cooling infrastructure), and computer room air handlers
8+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment in facilities, chiller plants, and UPS rooms, with proficiency in Computrols building automation systems including sensor installation, programming, and equipment integration via Modbus, BACnet, and other protocols
Valid State of Texas Electrical Maintenance License and Refrigeration License or Certificate
Physical Qualifications:
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
Preferred qualifications:
BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) Certification demonstrating advanced facility management knowledge
Proven experience working in critical data center environments where uptime and reliability are paramount
Experience with testing and commissioning new electrical and mechanical equipment in data center environments
Background programming and integrating building automation systems during capital improvement projects
