Job Description Summary

The Image Quality Engineer is responsible for R&D for new and existing imaging products for GE HealthCare Surgery. They prove a concept to be valid by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Their work typically has the objective of demonstrating through testing or analysis the performance and implementation potential of a concept. The role requires mastery of a body of theoretical knowledge, a strong foundation of function skills, and a knowledge of relevant technologies.

At our Salt Lake City site, engineering, research, and manufacturing teams come together to design and build surgical imaging technologies — including advanced C-arm imaging systems that support image-guided procedures for clinicians across the globe. The work here contributes to the precision, and capability clinicians bring into the OR every day.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Working with customers, marketing, and field personnel to define requirements which can be implemented by the engineering team
  • Developing methods to quantify subsystem interactions and their effects on image quality
  • Specification, Design, Verification, and Validation of system features and sub-systems relating to X-Ray Exposure Control, Image Processing, and Visualization.
  • Executing design to engineering standards
  • Documenting design with technical rigor
  • Collaborating in cross-functional teams with technical leadership to ensure that technical deliverables are consistent with the goals of larger programs, projects, or initiatives
  • Actively seeking mentoring to learn and solve problems.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or closely related discipline
  • Proven ability to develop timely and effective solutions for challenging design problems
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue tasks to completion
  • Broad exposure to HW/SW/Systems design, and technical depth in one or more engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, etc.)

Desired Characteristics

  • MS in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other closely related fields
  • Broad exposure to medical imaging physics
  • Ability to design and develop image processing algorithms
  • Proficient in the use of software tools for analysis and simulation (Python, C++, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Effective communication skills and boundaryless behavior
