Corporate Affairs and Communications (CA&C) is a global strategic function that uses a variety of programs and platforms to shape and communicate American Express’ brand message and key business initiatives to shareholders, colleagues and the community-at-large. Our team oversees global public affairs and media relations, social media, colleague communications, and corporate sustainability.

The Manager – Corporate Sustainability, Climate Data and Controls Management will lead American Express’ enterprise climate data management and reporting. This includes accountability for the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, climate data controls, and regulatory reporting readiness.

 

This role will also support the company’s broader net-zero program by enabling high-quality, decision-useful data and insights. The position reports to the Director of Corporate Sustainability, Climate Operations and Controls Management and sits within the Global Sustainability team.

 

This role will manage key elements of the GHG inventory program, coordinating execution, reporting processes, and cross-functional partnership with stakeholders across the enterprise. The role will work closely with an Analyst who supports day-to-day inventory execution, helping provide program oversight, coordination, and direction across key workstreams.
 

GHG Inventory, Reporting & Controls

  • Oversee end-to-end management of Amex’s GHG inventory and stakeholders, including governance, methodology, and final deliverables
  • Manage delivery of climate data and disclosures for enterprise- and market-level regulatory and voluntary reporting (e.g., CDP, SBTi)
  • Oversee implementation and operation of GHG data systems (e.g., Watershed) in partnership with internal teams and consultants
  • Define and maintain climate data controls to support regulatory compliance and assurance readiness
  • Lead assurance activities, including coordination, issue remediation, and ongoing control enhancement
  • Oversee PRSA processes and annual controls testing
  • Partner with business units to improve data quality, consistency, and reporting processes
  • Advance climate data processes through automation, workflow optimization, and responsible AI use to reduce manual effort, strengthen insights, and support evolving needs.

 

Technical Leadership & Enterprise Advisory

  • Serve as enterprise subject matter expert (SME) on GHG accounting methodologies, assumptions, and reporting positions
  • Advise stakeholders on regulatory requirements, reporting implications, and business impacts
  • Lead governance processes for GHG data and climate reporting
  • Communicate progress, risks, and implications of climate data to internal stakeholders
  • Streamline calculation and data analysis processes with technology and AI adoption.

 

Net-Zero Data & Insights

  • Lead data-backed processes to track progress against net-zero targets, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and external commitments
  • Provide accurate, timely, and decision-useful data to support evaluation of decarbonization initiatives
  • Partner cross-functionally to support implementation and monitoring of key net-zero initiatives
  • Develop and enhance dashboards, metrics, and reporting outputs for internal and external stakeholders

 

Data, Systems & Process Advancement

  • Oversee and advise on the implementation of inventory management and accounting tools
  • Support integration of new scalable tools, workflows, and data management practices
  • Support the development and implementation of comprehensive control mechanisms 
  • Identify and support opportunities to improve climate data processes through automation and system enhancements
  • Contribute to evolving capabilities as regulatory expectations and business needs change

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in corporate sustainability or related field, with experience in climate data or GHG reporting
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Finance, Business)
  • Experience working with GHG data, inventories, or carbon accounting
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and reporting programs (e.g., CDP, TCFD, GHG Protocol, SBTi)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with climate data or reporting tools (e.g., Watershed, Workiva, Salesforce)
  • Familiarity with global climate reporting regulations (e.g., CSRD, TCFD-aligned disclosures)
  • Experience in financial services or a global corporate environment
