Position Summary
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems in the health
system. Works according to diagrams, sketches, operations manuals and manufacturer’s specifications. Patrols Hospital and Division Street buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry. Uses hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Adhere's to Mercyone
performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values.
Major Areas of Responsibility/Essential Function % of Time
1. Performs preventative maintenance on facility equipment.
· Determines the equipment needed to perform specific job.
· Adheres to procedure for specific task.
· Performs tasks according to procedure.
· Verifies proper functionality of the piece of equipment.
· Follows through on inoperative equipment, to include generating a work order and ensuring that
work order is completed.
· Maintains 95% completion rating on assigned PM’s. 35%
2. Performs routine repair work.
· Determines the equipment needed to perform specific repair.
· Performs repair work.
· Documents work performed on work order and presents to clerical support staff for record
keeping.
· Identifies other repair needs and generates work orders. 35%
3. Operates and maintains boiler room.
· Monitors equipment.
· Identifies problems and takes next steps.
· Communicates to next shift. 5%
4. Demonstrates competency of building systems.
· Knowledgeable of medical gas systems.
· Knowledgeable of heating and cooling systems: 10%
· Chiller start-up · Boiler start-up · Air handle unit start-up · Monitors and sets up negative pressure rooms. · Knowledgeable in utility systems.
5. Sartori Staff- patrols Sartori Memorial Hospital and Division Street buildings and grounds to
prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
• Periodically tours buildings and grounds, checks doors, windows and gates.
• Responds to and resolves problems. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or
details them or calls the police.
• Escorts personnel as requested.
• Provides documentation or seeks documentation from others when appropriate (i.e., witnesses,
policy reports, etc.).
• Coordinates efforts to maintain/improve safety.
• Responds to codes as trained 15%
6. Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
• Attends required safety programs.
• Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
• Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other
emergency situations.
• Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
• Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved.
Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.
Education and Experience:
Basic Skill Set 0 – 2 years - Experience in an institutional environment.
High School or Equivalent (GED)
Certification/Licensure Required for Job:
Valid IA driver’s license and an acceptable Motor
Vehicle Report (MVR). MRT. Non-Violent Crisis
Intervention Training (NVCI) within 6 months of hire
for full-time staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required: (i.e. supervision, computers, etc.) Intermediate language, basic math, intermediate reasoning ability. Personal computer. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical inclination.
Working Conditions:
May be exposed to areas that are hot or extremely dirty. Exposure to seasonal weather conditions. The tasks of this job may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Potential for possible exposure to hazardous materials and/or chemicals.
Schedule
This is a 1st shift position 7a-3:30pm. Will take call every 4 weeks and have some weekend work responsibilities during that time.
