About the role...
Duolingo’s Brand Campaigns team builds culture-first ideas that make our brand famous and drive business results. We’re hiring a Brand Campaigns Director to lead high‑impact, multi‑workstream campaigns from concept to launch, uniting Brand Marketing, Brand Studio/Creative, Growth, Product, PR/Comms, regional marketers, and external partners. In this role, you will bridge the gap between long-term brand strategy and agile cultural execution, ensuring that our biggest creative moments not only capture immediate attention but also build sustainable brand equity, differentiation, and emotional resonance globally. You’ll set the bar for tentpole, partnership, and culturally relevant moments, define success metrics, and ensure our biggest ideas ship on time, on budget, and at Duolingo quality. This role is based in New York, with Pittsburgh considered for the right candidate. The team partners closely with Brand Studio and follows our marketing campaign process across planning, creative development, production, launch, and post‑mortem to scale what works across markets and channels.
🧠 You will...
- Formulate Campaign Brand Strategy: Translate macro brand positioning and long-term company goals into actionable, strategically sound creative briefs and overarching thematic campaign platforms.
- Uncover Consumer & Market Insights: Partner with research and strategic insights teams to deep-dive into consumer behaviors, audience segmentation, competitive landscapes, and cultural shifts, converting data into inspiring briefs that spark viral creative concepts.
- Own end‑to‑end strategy and execution for Tier 0–2 brand campaigns and partnerships, from business case and brief through creative development, production, launch, reporting, and retro.
- Lead cross‑functional alignment across Brand Marketing, Brand Studio/Creative, Growth, Product, PR/Comms, Channel Owners, Regional/Country Marketing, and agencies to deliver cohesive, on‑time launches.
- Build clear campaign plans, budgets, and success metrics; track performance and optimize in‑flight to hit goals without sacrificing craft.
- Drive culture‑first ideas and tentpole moments that earn attention and support growth, partnering with internal creative and external production/media partners as needed.
- Champion Global Brand Governance: Ensure all campaign assets, messaging architectures, and localized iterations align strictly with Duolingo’s global identity, tone of voice, and brand guidelines, adapting global ideas to maintain regional relevance without diluting core brand values.
- Establish and uphold ways of working for complex campaigns, including rituals, documentation, RACI, and decision logs that help teams move fast with clarity.
- Manage external partners (agencies, production, media) and integrate them seamlessly with internal teams; negotiate scope, timelines, and deliverables.
- Partner with Marketing Analytics and channel owners to define KPIs, measurement plans, and post‑campaign learnings that scale to future work. Establish holistic, dual-funnel measurement frameworks that track both immediate tactical goals (clicks, acquisition) and long-term strategic brand health (brand lift, sentiment shifts, and consideration).
- Contribute to an annual campaign calendar and pipeline across markets, ensuring resourcing and sequencing support our biggest bets.
✅ You have...
- 10+ years leading integrated brand campaigns for world‑class consumer brands or consumer tech, with measurable impact and examples across multiple channels.
- Hybrid Strategic & Creative Mastery: A proven track record of acting as a strategic planner or brand strategist, demonstrated by an ability to evaluate creative ideas through the lens of broader business objectives and long-term brand positioning.
- Proven success running multi‑workstream, cross‑functional programs end‑to‑end, aligning senior stakeholders, and delivering on time and on budget in fast‑moving environments.
- Deep experience partnering with in‑house creative studios and external agencies on concepting, production, and asset delivery across social, video, OOH, experiential, and partnerships.
- Analytical Proficiency: Deep fluency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, brand health tracking platforms (e.g., YouGov, Kantar), attribution modeling, and digital marketing performance data.
- Strong strategic and creative judgement grounded in clear objectives, with the ability to translate big ideas into plans, milestones, owners, and KPIs.
- Excellence in communication and facilitation; you run crisp kickoffs, reviews, and status, and you make decisions and tradeoffs visible.
- Fluency in campaign measurement and reporting frameworks; you synthesize insights and drive continuous improvement across campaigns.
- Comfort working with regional teams to adapt global ideas for local relevance and scale.
- Based in New York or Pittsburgh.
⭐ Exceptional candidates will have...
- Experience leading tentpole, culture‑driving brand moments and partnerships that earned significant organic attention and supported growth goals.
- A track record partnering closely with Growth/Performance to align brand activity with acquisition or top‑of‑funnel targets.
- Depth building or improving campaign operating systems, templates, and tooling that uplevel team execution at scale.
- Success managing a blended ecosystem of agencies, production partners, and regional vendors across concurrent launches.
- Familiarity with Duolingo’s brand world and creative standards, and enthusiasm for language, education, and internet culture.
