Responsibilities
In this role the Laboratory Supervisor will perform the following job duties:
- Supervise and coordinate the technical operations of the assigned laboratory cost center to ensure accurate, high-quality, and timely laboratory services that support patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures for the assigned area.
- Ensure compliance with UF Health/Shands Jacksonville policies, regulatory requirements, licensing standards, and accreditation guidelines.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance oversight for laboratory staff.
- Collaborate with laboratory supervisors and leadership to coordinate workflow and optimize departmental operations.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage the assigned cost center budget.
- Schedule staff, assign workstations, and ensure appropriate staffing coverage to meet operational needs.
- Perform laboratory technologist duties as needed to support daily operations.
- Monitor quality, efficiency, and productivity while ensuring accurate and timely test results.
- Foster a patient- and customer-focused culture by modeling professionalism, collaboration, and exceptional service.

Hours: Days shift
Days: Monday-Friday with weekend call
Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor's Degree. Associate's Degree with minimum of 8 years relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred: Master's Degree
Necessary Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure to complete deadlines
- Demonstrate appropriate computer skills
- Technically competent in principles and procedures of assigned laboratory disciplines
- Understanding of laboratory regulatory issues
Licensure/Certifications
Required: Florida licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in assigned area within three (3) months of hire or transfer
Experience
Required: Over 5 years of Technologist, Histocompatibility Technologist, Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist
Preferred: Supervisor experience
Supervision
Supervisory responsibility of 30 employees
Budgetary Responsibility:Responsible for annual budget of $2,500,000.00
Licensure/Certifications
Preferred: Florida licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor. National certification from ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) for assigned work areas
