Position Summary

The Veteran Services Associate will serve as one of the college’s school certifying officials, processing enrollment certifications, notices of change of enrollment, and periodic verification of pursuit training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students Development or other administrator, the Veteran Services Associate is accountable for providing academic advising and retention strategies for veteran students in various academic area through effective performance in these essential duties:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Guide veteran students to appropriate resources concerning college admission application processes, available educational benefits for veterans and dependents, and applying for educational benefits online.
  • Review and evaluate academic and military transcripts, verify credit transfer, and provide curriculum checks to ensure degree track, and graduation requirements are aligned.
  • Coordinate with appropriate college departments for testing, academic advising, campus life and student support services and other college departments for the success and retention of veteran students.
  • Coach College staff on veteran educational policy and procedure and distributes timely updates.
  • Serve as liaison between CT State Capital and Veteran community partners.
  • Maintain institutional and veteran data for reporting to administration, community partners, and appropriate reporting agencies.
  • Represent CT State Capital at various community veteran and military functions/events as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an appropriately related field with one (1) or more years of experience in student services, advisement, or other higher education related field, or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Veteran Services.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Banner student information system
  • An understanding of the mission of the community college system
  • Demonstrated involvement in support of diversity,
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies.
Special consideration given to military veterans

Salary 

  • $43.70 hourly
