Principal Business Systems Analyst

The Principal Business Systems Analyst serves as a critical bridge between TerraPower’s business stakeholders, digital product team, engineering organizations, and IT division. This role will act as the primary business partner to the IT Data Architect, Data Governance Lead, and Director of Digital Products and AI. They will be responsible for translating complex business and product needs into actionable data strategies and working closely with IT to establish and mature our enterprise data governance framework. They will work to ensure high data quality, security, and usability across all business systems, digital solutions, and emerging AI products. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, this high visibility role ensures that data initiatives are tightly aligned with executive strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Business-to-IT Translation

  • Act as the primary liaison between business domain leaders, digital product owners, and IT, primarily the Data Architect
  • Facilitate and maintain an Enterprise Capability Roadmap to synchronize executive strategic goals with system implementation and operational business workflows
  • Drive operational readiness by ensuring all digital solutions are underpinned by standardized, documented, and governed business processes. Translate complex business objectives and product requirements into clear data requirements, logical data models, and system architecture proposals
  • Partner with the Data Architect to ensure that technical data structures, pipelines, and storage solutions directly align with business capabilities and user needs
  • Proactively audit existing digital solutions to identify friction points where fragmented business processes lead to data integrity gaps and propose architectural remedies.
  • Guide business stakeholders and data owners through technical trade-offs, ensuring they understand the capabilities and limitations of proposed solutions

Data and Process Governance

  • Working with IT and the Data Governance Lead, help design, implement, and embed data standards, validation rules, and good data practices directly into standardized business processes and digital products across business operations, engineering, and digital product functions
  • Establish data ownership and stewardship programs, identifying and training data stewards across all TP divisions, while ensuring they have the process-driven tools to maintain high data quality at the source.
  • Collaborate with IT and Data Governance Lead to define and to enforce enterprise-wide data policies, standards, guidelines, and translate them into actionable operating procedures that align with daily business activities.
  • Develop metrics and dashboards that link data quality and compliance directly to business process efficiency and executive strategy outcomes.
  • Drive and advocate for the adoption of data governance best practices to foster an AI and digital innovation ready data culture throughout TP.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Execution

  • Collaborate with IT and the Data Governance Lead on working groups, committees, and councils to resolve data conflicts, standardize definitions, and manage master data
  • Partner with all divisions and teams to embed data governance requirements directly into digital solutions during the development lifecycle
  • Support the maintenance of the enterprise data catalog and business glossary to ensure a shared understanding of critical data assets

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience in business architecture, business process management (BPM), data governance, business analysis, or a closely related field
  • Experience and exceptional ability to map business processes, understand executive-level strategic goals, and identify how data enables business outcomes
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, modern data architecture concepts, and AI/ML data requirements. Coding experience is not necessarily needed, but it is required to be able to “speak data engineering” and understand data pipelines for digital products
  • Proven track record of designing or maturing data governance frameworks, managing data quality, and clear understanding of master data management
  • Proven track record of leading organizational change management and process harmonization across siloed departments.
  • Elite ability to articulate highly technical concepts to executive leaders and highlight complex business workflows to technical architects
  • Familiarity with data governance and cataloging platforms and business analysis/process mapping tools. Certifications in BPM, Data Management or Business Analysis is a plus
  • Able to manage ambiguity, prioritize, and drive clarity and alignment across teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and natural curiosity
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

TerraPower’s technology is controlled for export by various agencies of the U.S. Government.  TerraPower must evaluate applicants who are foreign nationals (other than asylees, refugees, or lawful permanent residents) in accordance with U.S. Government export control requirements.  To facilitate TerraPower’s export control reviews, you will be asked as part of the application process to identify whether you are a U.S. Citizen or national, asylee, refugee, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.  Government export authorization approval times vary.  Based on the business needs for a particular position, TerraPower may not consider a foreign national from a country if it is impracticable to obtain timely Government export approval.

Job details

Salary Range:  $138,685 - $208,027

* We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
