Position Summary: (Overview of key purpose and accountability of the role)
The Associate will perform fundamental credit analysis on large global corporate clients across a broad range of sectors, including but not limited to Industrials, TMT, Infrastructure, Transportation, Utilities, and Natural Resources. Working at the centre of TD’s European Corporate & Investment Banking platform, the role offers exposure to complex financings, investment grade and leveraged lending transactions, portfolio management, and direct engagement with senior stakeholders across the bank. The Associate will play a critical role in underwriting, monitoring, and managing credit risk for a diverse portfolio of multinational clients while contributing to the continued growth and strategic development of TD Global Finance (TDGF) and TD’s European franchise.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead and prepare high-quality credit analysis and recommendations for assigned borrower relationships, including annual reviews, interim credit requests, new underwriting opportunities, amendments, waivers, and refinancings, while supporting presentations to the TDGF Credit Risk Committee.
- Assess the creditworthiness of large corporates through detailed financial statement analysis, cash flow assessment, business and industry evaluation, peer benchmarking, capital structure analysis, and downside scenario testing.
- Oversee and monitor the performance of TDGF’s loan portfolio, ensuring ongoing compliance with approved credit authorizations, covenant requirements, regulatory expectations, and internal risk management standards.
- Prepare annual and interim credit reviews in accordance with TD policies and regulatory requirements, including the determination and maintenance of accurate internal risk ratings reflecting probability of default (PD) and loss given default (LGD).
- Conduct in-depth market, industry, and company research to support underwriting and portfolio management activities, identifying emerging risks, industry trends, credit events, and opportunities that may impact the portfolio.
- Review and analyse credit agreements, security packages, ISDA documentation, and other financing arrangements to ensure legal documentation appropriately reflects approved transaction structures and risk mitigants.
- Identify, evaluate, and communicate key credit, structural, legal, and execution risks, while developing practical solutions and recommendations that support both risk management objectives and client needs.
- Partner closely with Corporate Banking Relationship Coverage, Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, Global Markets, Treasury, Global Trade Finance, Cash Management, and other product partners to structure and execute financing solutions for corporate clients.
- Support the underwriting and execution of a wide range of transactions, including revolving credit facilities, term loans, acquisition financings, bridge facilities, and other strategic lending opportunities.
- Prepare transaction analyses, term sheet reviews, committee materials, and client presentations, ensuring key risks, mitigants, and return metrics are clearly documented and articulated.
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across business, risk, legal, operations, and finance functions to facilitate effective credit decision-making and transaction execution.
- Actively contribute to the strategic development, growth initiatives, and business planning activities of TDGF and TD’s European Corporate & Investment Banking platform.
- Participate in TDGF Credit Risk Committee discussions, providing thoughtful analysis and insights on borrower performance, portfolio developments, and new underwriting opportunities.
- Prepare management reporting and portfolio analytics for senior management, governance committees, regulators, and other stakeholders on both a scheduled and ad hoc basis.
- Maintain strong relationships and regular engagement with Risk Management, senior credit executives, and business partners to ensure alignment on risk appetite, portfolio trends, and strategic objectives.
- Stay current on economic, market, regulatory, accounting, and legal developments affecting corporate borrowers and credit markets.
- Demonstrate strong governance, control, and risk management behaviours consistent with TD’s risk culture, policies, and regulatory obligations.
- Support, mentor, and develop junior team members, fostering technical credit skills, sound judgement, and professional growth in line with TD’s leadership framework.
Requirements:
- Relevant experience in corporate banking credit at Associate level.
- Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent - CFA, ACT or an accounting designation is considered an asset.
- Sound understanding and experience of credit and wholesale banking products.
- Strong planning, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong business and financial analytical skills.
- Sound knowledge of MS Office applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
- Strong work ethic and commitment to business goals and high professional standards.
- Ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments.
