About the Role

Sarvam is building sovereign AI for India - foundational models, a developer platform, and enterprise products that put AI to work across BFSI, healthcare, and the public sector. The Head of Brand & Communications owns how that story is understood: how Sarvam shows up to developers, enterprises, the media, policymakers, and the public, and how a coherent brand and narrative are built across every channel.

The mandate is to define Sarvam's brand and lead its communications — shaping press narratives, driving proactive media engagement, placing the founders and research where they matter, and building credibility with technical, business, and policy audiences. You will set the strategy and build the system: the brand identity, the narrative, the newsroom, and the team and partners to execute across earned, owned, and social channels.

You will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and the founders, and play a critical role in ensuring communications is not a service function but a driver of business outcomes — pipeline, adoption, talent, and trust.

What You’ll Do

  • Brand strategy & identity. Own Sarvam's brand end-to-end — positioning, narrative, voice, and visual identity — and keep it coherent across product, marketing, recruiting, and public moments as the company scales.

  • Communications strategy. Define and drive the communications strategy across developer, enterprise, policy, and consumer audiences. Build the system, the cadence, and the team to execute it.

  • Press & media engagement. Own the press narrative. Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier business, technology, and trade press in India and globally, and proactively drive coverage that advances Sarvam's positioning.

  • Narrative & messaging. Translate complex models, platform capabilities, and research into clear, credible narratives that resonate with developers, technical buyers, executives, and policymakers — without diluting the technical depth.

  • Founder & executive visibility. Place Sarvam's founders and research in the rooms that matter — AI summits, policy circles, global benchmarks, and tier-1 media. Prepare leaders to be effective spokespeople across press, podcasts, panels, and stage.

  • Thought leadership & policy comms. Shape Sarvam's voice on sovereign AI, India's AI stack, and the policy conversations the company is part of. Produce POVs, briefings, and narratives that establish category leadership.

  • Product & launch communications. Lead comms for every model and product release — from launch narrative to the steady cadence of capability releases and developer-facing news. Know which moments deserve the spotlight and which don't.

  • Integrated marcomms. Partner closely with Marketing, Product, Developer Relations, and Sales to co-develop integrated campaigns and storytelling that span earned, owned, and social channels in a single coordinated voice.

  • Owned & social channels. Own Sarvam's owned newsroom, blog, and social presence. Drive proactive storytelling that increases the volume and consistency of high-quality narratives about Sarvam's impact.

  • Customer & ecosystem storytelling. Partner with GTM teams and customers to bring real-world use cases and impact to life across industries and regions, turning adoption into credible, repeatable stories.

  • Crisis & issues management. Exercise sound judgment in high-velocity, high-scrutiny moments — prioritise, triage, and lead the company's response through ambiguity.

  • Build & scale the function. Hire, structure, and develop the brand and communications team, and bring in agencies or partners for social, content, design, and programmatic execution where needed.

What We're Looking For

  • 12+ years in communications, brand, or marketing, with deep expertise leading communications in high-growth technology environments

  • Strong press instincts and relationships, with a track record of shaping narratives and landing impactful coverage with business, technology, and industry media

  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic advisor to founders and senior executives — not just an executor of comms plans

  • Experience building and owning a brand — positioning, narrative, voice, and identity — and keeping it coherent as a company scales

  • Experience engaging technical and enterprise stakeholders — developers, CIOs, CTOs, and line-of-business leaders — with the ability to tailor messaging across segments

  • Experience working in highly cross-functional, matrixed organisations, with strong instincts for alignment across product, GTM, and marketing

  • Ability to build and scale teams, including structuring complementary capabilities such as social, content, and design under a broader comms strategy

  • Sound judgment in high-scrutiny environments, with a balance of strategic thinking and a strong bias to action and measurable impact

Bonus Points

  • Experience at a founder-led or early-stage deep-tech company where the brand, narrative, and comms function had to be built from the ground up

  • Existing relationships with reporters, analysts, and editors covering AI, enterprise tech, and the Indian technology ecosystem

  • Experience managing communications for AI or ML products, and an understanding of both developer culture and enterprise buying

  • Familiarity with the policy and regulatory conversation around AI in India, and experience with policy or public-affairs communications

  • Strong editorial judgment and taste across narratives, decks, landing pages, customer stories, and event moments

  • Are very online — you follow the right channels, catch what is moving through developer and AI conversation early, and read timing and tone when the conversation gets noisy
