Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering (Gen AI Platform)
Introduction to the Team
Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.
We are looking for a Engineering Manager to lead our Generative AI Platform team, a strategic, high-visibility platform that is responsible for enabling AI-powered experiences across the company. This leader will own the strategy, execution, and adoption of our GenAI platform ecosystem, including no-code/low-code tooling, SDKs, agent frameworks, governance, and enterprise-wide integrations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, platform-minded technologist who can balance rapid iteration with strong governance, and who can partner deeply across engineering and product
In this role, you will:
- Lead multiple software development engineering teams to design, build, and operate scalable, secure, and resilient services and platforms, ensuring high availability and performance for Expedia Group customers and partners.
- Drive end-to-end system design, including low-level design (LLD), API design, and data modeling, ensuring alignment with Expedia’s architectural standards, engineering best practices, and long-term technical vision.
- Define clear technical direction, set quality and operational excellence standards, and coach engineers and engineering managers in areas such as code quality, testing, observability, reliability, and incident management.
- Partner closely with product, design, data, and other technology leaders to define roadmaps, prioritize backlogs, and deliver high-impact outcomes across multiple domains while enabling fungibility of teams and services.
- Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including leveraging AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world travel products in a secure, privacy-aware manner.
- Build, develop, and retain diverse engineering talent, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and experimentation while driving improvements to engineering processes, tooling, and ways of working across teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Level; Technical Degree Preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people management experience.
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams or managing managers, with ownership of multiple services or a multi-service platform within a broader domain or product area.
- Strong technical proficiency in modern software development practices, including system design (LLD), API design, data modeling, distributed systems, service-oriented or microservice architectures, automated testing, CI/CD, and monitoring/observability.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including understanding how to safely integrate these capabilities into existing services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent depth of experience architecting and scaling complex, high-throughput, low-latency systems in a cloud-native environment.
- Demonstrated success leading architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams or a broad domain, including defining service boundaries, data models, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements at scale.
- Experience driving operational excellence for critical systems, including on-call practices, SLO/SLA management, capacity planning, incident response, and continuous improvement based on data-driven insights.
- Hands-on experience designing and integrating AI/ML-enabled capabilities into production systems, such as personalization, recommendations, or intelligent automation, and safely operating these solutions in alignment with security, compliance, and ethics standards.
- Experience championing AI-driven developer productivity and quality tooling (such as code generation, intelligent test assistance, or anomaly detection) and guiding engineering teams to adopt these tools to improve delivery speed, reliability, and overall engineering effectiveness.
