Compensation Range:

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Rosenzweig lab is hiring a research technician I. We are looking for an Associate’ degree in biological/medical sciences to integrate in our endeavors to identify microglial molecular targets for Alzheimer’s disease. The position is full-time and will allow you to acquire skills in molecular biology, CRISPER-CAS9 gene editing, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and RNA sequencing. The position also includes working with both mouse and human brain and blood samples, focusing on the contribution of peripheral immune cells to Alzheimer’s disease. Priority for applicants willing to commit for a period longer than 1 year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with technical procedures and experiments according to specific instructions and protocols when initiating and conducting research experiments, including handling mice and surgeries in mice. May set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for the tests, research or process control.
  • Provides simple to moderately complex data collection during research studies. Records experimental data, collects/tabulates/calculates data. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes basic data elements.
  • Assists with purchasing routine lab supplies, collects receipts, and monitors expenditures. May support the care and feeding of animals and cleaning and maintaining cages. May interact with, observe, test, and calculate research specimens/subjects.
  • May extract data for follow-up, perform inventory control, order supplies and record experiments. Performs housekeeping tasks. Works closely with staff to understand the principles of compliance, patient confidentiality, and other ethical obligations involved in conducting research.
  • Works closely with staff to become familiar with industry standards, best practices, and trends in health sciences. Attends/participates in weekly lab meetings, and, as appropriate, institutes, and seminars.
  • Ensures adherence to research protocols and requirements. Cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment. Plans and modifies research techniques, procedures, tests, equipment or software.
  • May drive to collect human blood samples from clinic (~2 miles drive) and process them in lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Associate's degree Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in a large complex health care or academic setting preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Understanding of medical or laboratory terminology preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels preferred
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred
  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented preferred
  • Sound degree of computer literacy preferred
  • Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics preferred
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism preferred
