📄 Job Description Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer – NDT
(Aerospace | 10–14 Years Experience)
Job Summary
The Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer – NDT is responsible for executing and supporting Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities within aerospace programs, ensuring product integrity, regulatory compliance, and process robustness.
This role combines strong technical expertise in NDT methods with mechanical design, materials engineering, and special process knowledge. The engineer drives inspection planning, supports production and failure analysis, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
NDT Engineering & Inspection
- Perform and support NDT inspections using:
- Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT)
- Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Digital Radiographic Testing (DXR)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Eddy Current (ET)
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and process documents to define inspection requirements
- Provide technical clarification for all NDT related query to internal & external parties.
- Develop and review NDT procedures, work instructions, and acceptance criteria in compliance with Honeywell specification and international standards (ASTM, AWS, etc.)
- Collaborate with:
- Design teams to provide input on inspectability and failure risks
- Manufacturing teams to improve process quality
- Quality teams for root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Support audits (internal/external) and ensure compliance with Honeywell requirements
- Train and guide junior technicians and inspectors
Technical Support & Problem Solving
- Support failure analysis and defect investigations using NDT techniques
- Assist in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Interface with cross-functional teams:
- Design engineering
- Materials engineering
- Manufacturing and quality teams
- Support disposition of non-conforming materials.
Process Development & Improvement
- Contribute to development and improvement of:
- NDT procedures and techniques
- Inspection plans and acceptance criteria
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process capability and efficiency
- Support implementation of process changes with proper approvals
- Automation in NDT / digital inspection tools
- Data analytics or AI-based defect recognition
Training & Certification Support
- Support qualification and certification of NDT personnel.
- Assist in training programs and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Ensure awareness of latest standards, specifications, and process updates
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering / Materials Engineering / Metallurgy (or related field)
- 10–14 years of experience in aerospace NDT or special processes
- NDT Certification (Level III preferred) in relevant methods in accordance with NAS410/EN4179 or ASNT.
- Hands-on experience with documented on-job training records in multiple NDT methods (RT, PT, MT, UT, ET,)
