Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer - Aerodynamics
As an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer – Aerodynamics & Thermal here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will design and develop advanced mechanical systems, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive innovation in mechanical design and product performance.
The Installations Aerodynamics group is seeking applicants who will strive to find innovative, cost-effective means for creating and improving products and technologies, and the techniques and procedures used to design and validate them. You will be responsible for the successful design of gas turbine engine inlet, exhaust, nacelle, compartment and duct systems using advanced analyses and design tools such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and conjugate heat transfer (CHT) analyses. You will be actively involved in the testing of your designs in Honeywell’s extensive testing laboratories and aircraft, using advanced data acquisition and reduction software.
Some products you’ll support include export-controlled technology and therefore may only be supported by US Persons. Frequent interaction with internal and external customers will require proficient English writing, speaking and presenting skills. Your work will be integral to satisfying current customers and securing future business by consistently meeting or exceeding Voice of Customer requirements.
You will report directly to the Engineering Manager, and you’ll work at our Phoenix, AZ location on a hybrid at home and in office work schedule.
- Aerodynamic and thermodynamic analyses using both 1D and 3D methods.
- Computer Aided Design using NX software.
- Aerodynamic and thermodynamic testing, including instrumentation specification, test plan and results report writing and data post-processing.
- Improving aerodynamic and thermal analysis and test tools
- Internal and external customer support with occasional travel.
- Technical presentations and report writing.

YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
- 5 years’ experience in a technical discipline, can include graduate studies.
- US Citizen or lawful permanent resident due to export control restrictions
WE VALUE
- Masters of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Strong fundamental educational background in aerodynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics and CFD.
- Strong understanding of detailed aerodynamics analyses and/or test methods.
- Experience in fireproof design and test
- Experience with CFD, preferably commercial packages such as StarCCM+ Fluent, or CFX.
- Proficiency with programming and scripting languages such as MATLAB.
- Demonstrated mastery of MS Office software.
- Self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision, consistently taking the initiative to get things done, doing things before being asked by others or being forced to by events.
- Candidate should have effective product design and development skills, team orientation, the ability to set realistic priorities, and focus on critical issues.
- Ability to convey subtle or complex messages clearly both in writing and verbally, as appropriate for the topic and audience.
- Good knowledge of aerospace industry.
- Willingness to put in the effort required to get the job done.
