Position Overview

The Vice President of Software Engineering is a senior executive responsible for defining and executing Diligent's software engineering vision across multiple product portfolios within the Technology Centre of Excellence. This leader provides strategic direction for global engineering organizations, ensuring the successful delivery of secure, scalable, AI-enabled products while driving operational excellence, innovation, and sustainable business growth.

The VP partners closely with Executive Leadership, Product, UX, Security, Data, and Customer organizations to establish long-term technology strategy, investment priorities, and organizational capability. They are accountable for building a world-class engineering culture, developing senior engineering leaders, and ensuring engineering execution consistently delivers customer and commercial outcomes.

As Diligent continues its transformation into an AI-first organization, the VP will champion the adoption of AI across engineering, product development, and internal operations—identifying strategic opportunities that improve customer value, accelerate delivery, increase engineering productivity, and strengthen competitive differentiation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the long-term engineering vision and organizational strategy in alignment with Diligent's corporate objectives.
  • Lead multiple global engineering organizations through Senior Directors and Directors, ensuring high-performing, scalable leadership across regions.
  • Partner with Executive Leadership, Product, UX, Security, and Data leaders to shape product strategy, technology investments, and portfolio priorities.
  • Own engineering execution across multiple product portfolios, ensuring predictable delivery, operational excellence, quality, security, and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive organizational transformation through AI-first thinking, embedding AI capabilities into engineering practices, software development, customer experiences, and business operations.
  • Establish technology governance, engineering standards, architectural direction, and operational metrics across the organization.
  • Build and develop exceptional engineering leadership teams through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Lead strategic workforce planning, organizational design, and global scaling initiatives.
  • Oversee significant operating budgets, vendor relationships, investment planning, and resource allocation to maximize business outcomes.
  • Foster an inclusive, innovative, and customer-centric engineering culture built on accountability, collaboration, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Engineering at executive leadership forums, board-level discussions where appropriate, customer engagements, and strategic partner relationships.
  • Anticipate emerging technologies, market trends, and competitive developments, translating them into actionable engineering and business strategies.

Required Experience / Skills

  • 15+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience, including leading large global engineering organizations through multiple leadership layers.
  • Proven success leading engineering organizations supporting enterprise SaaS products at significant scale.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing enterprise technology strategies aligned with business growth objectives.
  • Strong executive leadership experience partnering with Product, Design, Security, Customer Success, Sales, and executive stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of modern software engineering, cloud-native architectures, platform engineering, DevOps, AI/ML technologies, and engineering operational excellence.
  • Proven experience leading organizational transformation, including AI adoption and large-scale technology modernization initiatives.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience balancing customer outcomes, engineering investment, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Exceptional executive communication and influencing skills with the ability to align diverse stakeholders around strategic priorities.
  • Experience managing large operating budgets, organizational planning, and executive-level business planning.
  • Passion for building diverse, inclusive, high-performing engineering cultures while developing future engineering leaders.
  • Strategic thinker who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments and consistently delivers measurable business impact.
