Job Description
The ICU Veterinary Technician provides high-level nursing care and technical support for hospitalized specialty and critical care patients. This role works closely with veterinarians and the ICU team to manage complex cases, perform advanced treatments, monitor critical patients, and ensure continuity of care throughout the night.

As a key member of the ICU team, you will be responsible for triaging incoming hospitalized patients, supporting multiple specialty services within the hospital, and maintaining a high standard of patient monitoring, treatment, and client communication.

Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate nursing care to ICU and hospitalized patients throughout treatment and recovery.
  • Triage incoming ICU cases from multiple referral and specialty services.
  • Place IV catheters, perform venipuncture, and collect blood samples.
  • Administer medications via SQ, IM, and IV routes and manage IV fluid therapy.
  • Perform advanced patient monitoring, including vital signs and clinical status changes.
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist with emergency and surgical procedures as needed.
  • Assist with placement and management of urinary catheters, oxygen support, and feeding tubes.
  • Monitor ECGs and other patient monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures including radiographs and in-house laboratory testing.
  • Provide post-operative and critical care support for hospitalized patients.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Communicate patient updates clearly with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and clients.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked ICU environment.
  • Support hospital flow by assisting with patient handling, restraint, feeding, and general care.
  • Participate in ICU team communication and contribute to ongoing workflow improvements.
Qualifications
  • RVT/LVT/CVT preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years veterinary experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Specialty, emergency, or inpatient ICU experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient restraint.
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and critical patient care preferred.
  • Knowledge of fluid therapy, radiology safety, and basic emergency protocols.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required; multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
