Role Description
The Fluid Systems Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on architecting and designing the multiple gas and liquid systems that traverse our battery cell, module, and full pack, forming the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. Within the Fluid Systems team, our Gas Systems are crucial to the function of our iron-air batteries because they deliver air to each cell and safely manage hydrogen that is generated during battery operation. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.
We're hiring a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the design effort of our Gas Systems. You will build and lead a world-class team of engineers. As a coach-player, you'll dynamically engage with your team to tackle mechanical design challenges, mentoring team members by sharing your expertise in gas system design. You'll work cross-functionally with other leaders to define requirements & verification plans, and inspire your team to deliver a design that meets those requirements.

What you'll do:
Create white-page designs that will be the foundation of Form Energy’s Gen 2 product designs
Work with consulting companies, vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
Drive verification analysis and testing of your team’s design work
Establish best practices for fluid system design and level-up your team members
Recruit and hire engineers who share your same vision for excellence in design
Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)
Guide team through failure root cause analysis on systems and components
Travel up to 20% to other Form Energy offices or vendor sites
What you'll bring:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 10+ years of industry experience in mechanical design of equipment, liquid or gas handling systems
Experience leading design work for complex mechanical systems and managing 2 or more direct reports in a functional leadership capacity
Understanding of first-principles modeling and design and experience optimizing designs for manufacturing and cost-down
Experience working in a manufacturing environment or with contract manufacturing vendors
Demonstrated experience optimizing mechanical design, balance-of-plant systems, and interdisciplinary interfaces of fluid systems
Direct experience in product development within an early-stage environment
Sense of urgency and self-driven to hit difficult schedule targets
