Accountabilities:

    The Fractional Chief Risk Officer, Investments will provide strategic guidance and hands-on advisory support to alternative investment organizations, helping clients enhance their investment risk capabilities, processes, and controls.

    • Advise clients on investment and portfolio risk management strategies, frameworks, and best practices.
    • Assess current risk processes, identify improvement opportunities, and develop actionable implementation plans.
    • Help clients establish effective policies, procedures, and control measures for investment risk oversight.
    • Analyze portfolio and investment risks using quantitative models, statistical techniques, and industry-standard methodologies.
    • Develop and enhance risk framework tools to evaluate individual investments, portfolios, strategies, and asset classes.
    • Perform stress testing, liquidity risk assessments, market risk analysis, credit risk reviews, and exposure monitoring.
    • Monitor investment activity, risk thresholds, portfolio performance, and potential areas requiring escalation.
    • Support portfolio managers with risk insights, allocation analysis, optimization models, and decision-making guidance.
    • Create executive-level risk reports, dashboards, and analytical materials for senior stakeholders.
    • Evaluate risk technologies, methodologies, and tools to support ongoing improvements.
    • Provide independent research, analysis, and recommendations on complex investment risk topics.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of consulting engagements, outcomes, recommendations, and progress.
    • Support ESG risk measurement and monitoring initiatives when applicable.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing investment risk within sophisticated asset management environments, combined with strong analytical capabilities and executive-level advisory skills.

      • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline required.
      • CFA, FRM, MBA, or another relevant advanced degree or professional certification preferred.
      • 8+ years of experience serving as a Chief Risk Officer focused on investments within a hedge fund, family office, or investment management firm.
      • Additional experience in risk management, trading, portfolio management, or quantitative/data science roles within asset management environments.
      • Deep knowledge of investment risk frameworks, portfolio construction, and risk management methodologies.
      • Strong understanding of market risk concepts, including Value at Risk (VaR), stress testing, sensitivity analysis, liquidity risk, and counterparty risk.
      • Experience working across multiple asset classes and investment strategies.
      • Familiarity with risk analytics platforms such as MSCI BarraOne, BlackRock Aladdin, FactSet, or similar tools.
      • Strong quantitative and statistical skills with experience working with databases and analytical systems.
      • Programming experience using languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, VBA, SQL, or C# preferred.
      • Ability to manage multiple advisory engagements and priorities independently.
      • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex risk concepts to investment professionals and senior leadership.
