About the Role
The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting will support the global accounting organization to ensure timely and accurate accounting and reporting over a variety of complex areas, including mergers and acquisitions, investments, variable interest entities, leases, equity, debt and derivatives. You have strong technical research skills, experience dealing with highly judgmental topics, excellent writing skills, and superb attentiveness to details. This role is based in San Francisco and reports to the Director of Technical Accounting.
What you will do
- Provide coaching and development of team members.
- Subject matter expert, working with the business and others in the accounting organization to identify, resolve and document complex accounting issues and transactions.
- Lead the evaluation and adoption of accounting standard updates, including drafting and reviewing updates to the company’s accounting policies.
- Prepare and review accounting memos providing detailed and persuasive documentation of the company's application of accounting principles to specific transactions.
- Partner and coordinate cross-functionally to understand business transactions and effectively communicate accounting issues with various departments throughout the company.
- Be solutions oriented and act as an advisor to key stakeholders on the operational and technical implications of new business transactions.
- Critically and thoroughly analyze non-recurring transactions by: identifying the accounting implications of contractual or implied terms; applying appropriate accounting rules and literature; and exercising professional judgment in subjective areas.
- Participate in the development of a strategy to support the growth of the business and team including prioritization of projects to align with the company's goals.
- Providing support for and managing the year-end and quarterly financial audit.
- Lead periodic trainings to members of the global accounting organization.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 10 years of technical accounting experience in a public accounting and/or technology organization, including 3 years of management experience.
- Big 4 experience and CPA certification or equivalent is required..
- Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be able to work with senior management to influence decision making, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience researching FASB Accounting Standards Codification and Big 4 interpretations
- Experience coordinating or reviewing valuation reports
- Familiarity with applying AI in performing research, analyses and drafting documents

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $182,000 per year - USD $202,000 per year.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
