Successful applicants will be interviewed based on available openings, to establish entry-level and lateral transfer police officer eligibility lists. Police Officer Trainee: $6,122-$6,275/month (during academy and field training); Lateral Police Officer: $6,589-$8,415/month (after completion of field training.) Police Officer total range: $6,589-$8,919/. Police Officers receive an additional education incentive of 2% for an associate’s degree and 4% for a bachelor’s degree. Police Officers also receive additional longevity pay of 1.5% at 10 years of service and an additional 1.5% at 15 years of service.Lateral Transfer Police Officers may qualify for a $10,000 hiring bonus. Police Officers receive medical insurance, dental insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, and holiday leave or pay in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. This position performs law enforcement, crime investigation, and crime prevention work. Primary responsibility is for the protection of life through enforcement of statutes and laws. Duties typically consist of car, foot, or bicycle patrol and traffic activities within the City of Pullman, and investigations; however, employees may be delegated assignments in specialized areas. Work involves an element of personal danger, and employees must exercise individual judgment and discretion in meeting emergencies and enforcing ordinances and laws. Entry-Level Qualifications: 21 years of age at time of appointment; high school diploma or G.E.D.; U.S. citizen; possession of valid driver's license; and the ability to pass a background check. Successful candidates must also meet the minimum requirements of Section 41.12.070 of the Revised Code of Washington.Lateral-Transfer Qualifications: In addition to the qualifications above, lateral transfers shall have successfully completed the Washington State Law Enforcement Basic Academy, or an academy which meets the criteria of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission; in which case, if hired, the candidate must successfully challenge the regular academy program through participation in the basic equivalency process.
