Job Description:

We are GDIT. The people supporting and securing some of the most complex government, defense, and intelligence projects across the country. We ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Our work has meaning and impact on the world around us, but also on us, and that’s important.

GDIT is your place. You make it your own by embracing autonomy, seizing opportunity, and being rusted to deliver your best every day.

We think. We act. We deliver. There is no challenge we can’t turn into opportunity. And our work depends on a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner joining our team to support customer activities.

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an embedded behavioral health provider who delivers comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and counseling to optimize psychological readiness, resilience, and recovery. The PMHNP supports personnel and families operating under high‑intensity demands, focusing on brain health, preventive care, and management of acute and chronic mental health conditions. This role includes clinical practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and direct consultation to leadership on psychological trends that impact operational tempo and well‑being.

HOW A PSYCHIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of clients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel clients as indicated).
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Diagnose and treat clients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physical, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Communicate mental health concepts in a way that resonates with elite operators who may be skeptical of traditional psychological support.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the client/family and organization.
  • Provide Command consultation regarding de-identified trends of morale and behavioral health to help inform operational tempos.
  • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all client encounters.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Board certification as a PMHNP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate
  • Minimum five (5) years of post-graduate experience in the independent practice of clinical psychiatric nursing.
  • Two (2) years prior experience in the DoW or VA setting.
  • Understanding of military culture and operational stressors of the operator community in SOF.
  • Proficiency in treating Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and chronic pain.
  • Provide advice on administrative, supply, and resource matters within their technical area.
  • Collaborate across all performance and support domains to ensure high-quality services.
  • Perform ongoing reviews of equipment, technology, literature, and practices to maintain program excellence.
  • Proficiently use required software, documentation systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, conferences, and in-service sessions.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with mandatory command training.
  • Meet physical requirements, including hiking over uneven terrain, functioning in austere environments, and lifting up to 25 kg.
  • Assist with assessments, testing, education, and training sessions as required.
  • Document all encounters and non-encounters in enterprise systems per program standards.
  • Participate in program improvement activities, literature reviews, guideline development, and educational material creation.
  • Provide referrals, collaborate across teams, and support research activities when appropriate.

This is a contingent posting, expected to start in 2027.
