This position is located in the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service (IHS), Sisseton Service Unit, Quality Assurance Division. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as the Safety Officer responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive environmental and occupational safety program to protect patients, staff, and visitors throughout the Service Unit. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Develop and maintain a current resources information center pertinent to industrial hygiene occupational health, loss control, safety, and environmental health. Supervise and evaluate required skills and provide appropriate recommendations to the hospital staff, management, fire Marshall and safety committee and provide necessary training to the staff on the plans. Directs radiological health and surveillance programs, air movement and ventilation monitoring, hazardous chemical handling, hazardous waste handling, fire safety planning, evacuation and training. Conducts or coordinate routine orientation and in-service training to all staff on TJC standards for safety management, industrial hygiene, risk management, radiological health, safety epidemiology, and infection control
