Position Overview

An underground utility contractor is seeking an experienced Cable Superintendent to oversee a major long-haul conduit project covering approximately 150 route miles. Roughly 70 miles are scheduled for the first year, with an additional 70 miles planned for the following year.

The Superintendent will oversee multiple crews totaling approximately 10–15 employees, including structure, hauling, directional drilling, and conduit-installation crews.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily field operations across multiple active work areas.
  • Manage foremen and crews while maintaining production, safety, and quality.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, trucking, and project schedules.
  • Oversee microduct and multi-conduit installation, including 1½-inch conduit.
  • Supervise directional drilling, structure installation, trenching, rock drilling, rock sawing, and air-hammer work.
  • Coordinate with the general contractor, project management, inspectors, and other subcontractors.
  • Track production and complete daily field reports using a company-provided iPad.
  • Resolve field issues and hold crews accountable for performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising underground fiber, telecom, or utility-conduit construction.
  • Strong knowledge of microduct, multi-duct systems, directional drilling, and conduit installation.
  • Experience managing multiple crews and approximately 10 or more employees.
  • Experience working in rocky terrain with rock drills, air hammers, or rock saws.
  • Ability to read plans, route maps, specifications, and utility locates.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and production-planning skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the project territory.

Position Details

  • Field locations may extend approximately two hours north or south of the primary operating area.
  • Employees may report directly to the jobsite or meet at the company shop.
  • Company truck may be provided.
  • Winter work will focus more heavily on rock drilling and rock-saw operations.
  • Project ride-along may be included in the interview process.
