Aptiv are hiring a Senior Manager of Tax Planning and Controversy on a 2 year fixed term contract reporting into the Vice President of Tax, EMEA and Global Reporting.

The Senior Manager of Tax planning and controversy is responsible for leading the EMEA tax strategy, identification of tax planning opportunities and defending tax controversy for assigned countries.  The role will comprise of 3 main responsibilities:

1 – Tax & Treasury Liaison

2 – Tax Planning

3 - Tax Controversy

Position & Responsibilities

Tax & Treasury Liaison Role

  • Responsible for ensuring effective coordination between the Tax and Treasury functions ensuring tax implications are considered in funding, liquidity, capital structure, intercompany financing and hedging activities while also ensuring treasury operations are structured in a tax-efficient and compliant manner.

Tax Planning

  • Responsible for EMEA global tax strategy for assigned countries ensuring that tax affairs are structured efficiently, robustly documented, technically supportable and defensible under audit scrutiny.
  • Present tax strategy updates and planning opportunities to Senior Tax leadership
  • Lead design and implementation of cross-border operating and financing structures
  • Over-see the transfer pricing policy in collaboration with the TP team.
  • Responsible for legal entity rationalisation.

Tax Controversy

  • Managing the EMEA Tax Controversy Program for assigned countries; including:
  • maintenance of EMEA controversy assessment program which includes:
    • preparation of audit defence files for planning transactions; e.g., documentation and storage of planning memorandum, delegation of authority authorizations, etc
    • handling inquires, audits, appeals and litigation and tracking response times,
    • documenting and supporting responses
  • management of EMEA controversy tracker to support corporate reporting, legal compliance, and management needs,
  • leading all material EMEA controversy; including setting strategy, preparing support and documentation and presenting arguments both directly and indirectly by managing internal and external resources. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal (legal and financial functions in particular) and external (legal and financial advisory firms) partners and advisors.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years tax experience within the tax function of a multinational publicly-traded corporation, Big 4 public accounting firm, and/or law firm; strong experience in with non-US based multi-nationals highly preferred.
  • Experience in foreign jurisdictions  with EMEA highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required; JD or Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Strong management and leadership skills and demonstrated success in leading, mentoring and developing a group of tax professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to interact well with people of various backgrounds and levels.
