American Express Credit and Fraud Risk team (CFR) leads end to end credit risk management of our consumer and commercial businesses. This entails developing and implementing strategies across customer life cycle - targeting, underwriting, credit limit management, on-going customer management and collection activities to deliver profitable business growth without adverse surprises, while providing an outstanding customer experience.
The Credit Risk team leverages cutting edge analytical techniques to generate insights from data to drive optimal decisions that balance growth with acceptable risks. We work in close partnership with cross-functional teams across geographies and interact extensively with external entities such as credit bureaus, new data providers and start-ups to develop and implement products and strategies.
As an Analyst in the team, you will oversee and support the Australia & New Zealand Commercial portfolio by conducting in-depth data analysis to identify insights and potential risks.
- Own credit risk management for commercial businesses across segments within Corporate and Small Business portfolio
- Drive analysis to support risk management for corporate portfolio
- Work in partnership with business to drive profitable growth
- Own risk outcomes and credit metrics
- Develop a thorough understanding of the expected and unexpected credit losses in the business and communicate them effectively to business leaders
- Focus on continuous improvement of credit risk management capabilities. Optimize integration and usage of capabilities and data such as credit bureau, financial statements and bank data. Continually explore and test new data sources.
- Monitor economic performance across all risk decisions and partner with the Centres of Excellence
- Develop / deploy capabilities that enhance profitable growth in partnership with Central teams
- Ensure complete understanding of and adherence to local laws & regulations
- Have deep understanding of macro-economic and business environment with direct and indirect impact on business and risk management.
- Analytical aptitude with experience in analysing large volumes of data (open to graduates or candidates early in their analytics career)
- Advance Excel skills required
- SQL and/or Python skills preferred
- Experience/familiarity with Big Data and Machine Learning is preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of the economics of the business, how the business makes money, Net Loss Provision and the levers that can be used to affect the economic outcomes.
- Experience in using balance sheet, financial statement, bank statement and AP/AR files in credit assessment
- Experience/familiarity with cutting edge credit risk system designs, emerging technologies such as Distributed Ledger and interfaces such as APIs, digital capability, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Data Science or similar quantitative field of study preferred
