If you don’t think you meet all of the criteria below but are still interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box - we’re looking for candidates that are particularly strong in a few areas, and have some interest and capabilities in others.
About the Role:
We’re looking for someone to own our voice on social and help make Kong famous. We have the chance to dominate our category, but we need a social-obsessed creator to help us pull it off.
You’ll work with the Director of New Media to set strategy and tone, but YOU will own the channels and get to run with your own ideas. We want someone who knows social better than we do. Someone that loves writing, creating, and turning complex ideas into simple and attention grabbing content.
This job will be building something new, not maintaining what’s been done before. If you hate boring corporate social content, good! We’re building our New Media team to be attention-first. Interesting and memorable. Let’s be the one exciting brand in a historically “safe” category.
FYI: Kong's product and audience are technical, but you don't need a technical or B2B background for this role (as long as you’re ready to learn).
What You’ll Do:
Write daily content across LinkedIn and Twitter/X for both the Kong brand and execs
Develop recurring content formats, narratives, and POVs that build long-term audience equity
Turn product launches, customer stories, internet moments, and internal thinking into high-performing posts
Ghostwrite posts, threads, launch copy, and reactive commentary for leadership
Help us kickstart our short-form video strategy
Work closely with Product Marketing to sharpen messaging and positioning
Study competitors (to make sure we’re nothing like them)
Maintain a fast feedback loop around what works and what doesn't; experiment constantly with tone, format, visuals, and distribution
Help build the culture internally: encourage and enable employees to show up on social themselves
What You'll bring to Kong:
1-5 years making things on social: we care less about the number of years and more about proof that you're good at this and obsessed with the craft
Strong instincts for internet humor, timing, and attention
Comfortable owning a channel end to end. You’ll have all the support you need, but there won’t be a ton of hand holding
Able to make things yourself: write, shoot, and ship the actual post, not just plan or strategize
Can adapt your own writing voice to match the target audience
Willing to get fluent in a technical product and audience: a B2B or technical background is not required, but you’ll have to learn the product to reach the right people (it will be fun, I promise)
BONUS: Experience with photography, videography, or basic design skills (even amateur level) is a HUGE plus
BONUS: Familiarity with influencer marketing, as we may build out a program down the road
BONUS: You’ve built an audience yourself and are comfortable being visible online
