Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Modular Offsite Manufacturing

Silent-Aire | Dublin

What you will do

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of mission-critical infrastructure. Working within our Modular Design Engineering Team, you will lead the development of innovative, factory-built mechanical solutions that power some of the world's most demanding environments.

You will take ownership of the complete mechanical design lifecycle for modular data centres, packaged MEP plantrooms, and skid-mounted mechanical systems, ensuring that every solution is engineered for performance, manufacturability, quality, and scalability.

This is an opportunity to work on complex global projects at the forefront of offsite manufacturing and data centre innovation, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, repeatable solutions deployed across international markets.

How you will do it

  • Lead the mechanical design and technical delivery of modular plantrooms, packaged MEP systems, and modular data centre solutions.
  • Develop robust chilled water, pumping, cooling, and heat rejection systems for mission-critical applications.
  • Produce and review P&IDs, schematics, General Arrangement drawings, technical specifications, and Descriptions of Operation.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles to create solutions optimised for factory production, testing, transportation, and rapid site deployment.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality, commissioning, procurement, suppliers, and project teams to ensure seamless design integration and execution.
  • Support technical submissions, design reviews, regulatory approvals, and client presentations.
  • Drive continuous improvement by standardising and enhancing modular design solutions for repeatable deployment across multiple regions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers, helping to develop engineering capability across the team.
  • Contribute to the adoption of new technologies and innovative cooling solutions that support the evolving demands of modern data centres.

What we look for

Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years' experience in mechanical building services, industrial MEP design, or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience delivering designs within an offsite manufacturing, modular construction, or DfMA environment.
  • Strong background in modular or packaged mechanical systems, ideally for data centres or other mission-critical facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of chilled water systems, pumping systems, thermal management, and cooling infrastructure.
  • Experience producing detailed, factory-ready design documentation suitable for fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and project delivery teams.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a passion for technical excellence and innovation.

Desirable

  • Experience with liquid cooling technologies for high-density data centre environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and certifications, including UL/cURus, CE, PED, ASHRAE, EN, and ISO.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards chartership.
  • Experience supporting projects across multiple geographic regions, including Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, or project sites as required.
