Responsibilities

In this role the Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform the following job duties:

  • Perform a wide range of laboratory procedures within assigned clinical areas in accordance with licensure/certification requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate assigned laboratory processes, workflow, or designated shifts to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Oversee quality control activities and support performance improvement initiatives to maintain compliance and laboratory excellence.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to new laboratory staff and team members.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical, operational, and customer service issues while serving as a resource for coworkers and clinicians.
  • Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance, validation, troubleshooting, and computer system upgrades.
  • Develop, review, and update laboratory policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols.
  • Perform analytical testing of blood and other human biological specimens with a high level of technical accuracy and expertise.
  • Ensure accurate interpretation, verification, and reporting of laboratory results across all clinical laboratory disciplines.
  • Complete pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes according to department and campus-specific requirements.
  • Adhere to all laboratory policies, regulatory standards, and quality assurance practices.
  • Foster strong working relationships with physicians, nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and other hospital departments to support exceptional patient care.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Leadership to maintain departmental operations, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while promoting a respectful, collaborative, and professional work environment.
  • Perform additional leadership and technical responsibilities as assigned to support departmental goals and operational needs.

Qualifications

Education

Required Degree: Associate's degree

Preferred Degree: Bachelor's degree

Licensure/Certification/Registration

State of Florida Laboratory Personnel (TC or TN) license in all areas

Special Skills/Qualifications/Additional Training/Experience

Required: 2 years with Bachelor’s degree or 4 years with Associate’s degree. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

Knowledge and Skills

 

Required: Technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory testing, procedures and processes performed in department or work area assigned. Follows and ensures adherence of staff to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; always protects confidentiality of patient information and results
